Tuesday in Monroe saw the Southwood Cowboys visit the Wossman Wildcats in a north Louisiana battle. This game also featured some of the best young forwards in the state along with great guards as well. While Wossman took the win in this contest, Southwood displayed why they are a dangerous team moving forward.
Wossman Wildcats
Kamron Coleman Kamron Coleman 6'8" | PF Wossman | 2023 State LA
Coleman ended up leading his team to victory by tying one of his teammates with a team high 14. The impressive part was with Pat Williams Pat Williams 6'6" | SF Wossman | 2022 State LA on the bench in foul trouble, he became the Wildcats inside presence scoring all 14 of his points in the second half (going 4-4 from the charity stripe). Coleman was active on the boards and constantly made Cowboy players change their shots or make extra passes with the use of his length and wing span. His defense and offense certified his improvement as a player and as one of the high tier of players in his class.
Krystian Lewis Krystian Lewis 6'3" | CG Wossman | 2024 State LA
The sophomore Wildcat was as hard as any guard to cover in the first half against Southwood. He had eight first quarter points nailing two triples and a layup using the dribble to create space and get to the paint. Lewis is a player who can create his own offense and offense for others as seen during this contest. While he is an underclassmen, Lewis has offensive ability that can help the Wildcats possibly play for a championship at the end of the season.
Albert Shell Albert Shell 6'3" | SG Wossman | 2022 State LA
Shell had a rough night shooting from the perimeter. He was unsuccessful on all three point attempts and turned the ball over more than usual. What stayed constant was his defense. In the Wildcats second half surge, Shell had a couple of steals and played high quality defense on the Southwood guards. His seven second half points and his defense were the keys in Shell helping Wossman walking out with an eleven point win.
Southwood Cowboys
Darius Anderson Darius Anderson 6'2" | CG Southwood | 2023 State LA
Anderson only had nine points on the night. However, it is his growth as a player that is was apparent even in a loss. His defense notably caused a problem for Albert Shell Albert Shell 6'3" | SG Wossman | 2022 State LA on the night causing him to force shots and never get into a rhythm. The three pointers that he took (he made one on the night) were all taken with confidence and belief as if they were going in. Anderson also had a good game in transition where he scored his other baskets. The Cowboys might have lost the game but they have found another confident defender and scorer.
Tahj Graham Tahj Graham 5'11" | CG Southwood | 2022 State LA
Speaking of defense, the defense that Tahj Graham Tahj Graham 5'11" | CG Southwood | 2022 State LA played on the Wildcat point guards helped switch the second half momentum and gave the Cowboys the lead goig into the waning moments of the third quarter. He caused Kaleb Miles Kaleb Miles 5'11" | PG Wossman | 2022 State LA and Antron Mason to have several turnovers with tough man-to-man defense and quick hands. His six point 3rd quarter was all on layups from steals of those two guards. Graham stepped his defense up to another level and showed that he could be a top tier defender for the Pokes going forward.
Jeremiah Evans Jeremiah Evans 6'10" | C Southwood | 2024 State #249 Nation LA
Evans had a game high fifteen basically displaying every part of his skill set. He scored on rebound putbacks, short hooks in the lane, and even making a three. His defense and rebounding was huge as the Cowboys took a second half lead and even closed to within four with one minute remaining. Evans displayed that he can be a complete player and is one who can make cause problems for defenses no matter where he catches the ball in the half court.
Wossman advanced their record to 13-3 while the Cowboys are now 7-9. The Cowboys move on to take on another 3A powerhouse in Madison Prep while the Wildcats wait to play in the Sidney Smith Invitational next week at West Monroe.
