Continue ReadingFlight Hankamp events and early high school season success seem to be going hand in hand right now, as a good number of players that we saw in the events are torching the high school scene. Yesterday we had Part 1 in our look at players that were at Flight Hankamp events that are off to hot starts this season.
Since there were so many of these athletes, here’s Part 2:
Ethan Crabtree Ethan Crabtree 6'5" | SG Coldwater | 2022 State MI (2022, G, Coldwater)
Crabtree has started the season doing what Crabtree does. He’s forces the hand of the defense with his ability to score from anywhere on the floor. As usual, Crabtree is both dependable and efficient this season on the offensive end for Coldwater.
Stevie Elam Stevie Elam 6'2" | CG Adrian | 2025 State MI (2025, G, Adrian)
Elam cam into a Flight Hankamp Open Run and despite being a freshman, displayed a grown man’s game. He was a physical and powerful playmaker with elite handles. Elam is showing that game maturity and playmaker potential so far this season with Adrian. F
Damaryon Fishburn Damaryon Fishburn 6'4" | CG Trillium Academy | 2023 State MI (2023, G, Taylor Trillium)
Fishburn has all the tools, from his skills to his positional size and strength. The young man can create looks, finish at the rim, and bury both mid range and 3 point jumpers. Fishburn already put up a 30 point game this season.
Grant George Grant George 6'1" | CG Northview | 2022 State MI (2022, G, Northview)
George was incredibly active at the open run, moving without the ball and working to get open and move the defense. He also showed that he could score in a variety of ways. After watching him play, it’s easy to see why early this season, East Nazarene College would send him an offer.
Evan Haroldson Evan Haroldson 6'4" | SF Dexter | 2023 State MI (2023, F, Dexter)
I really like Haroldson’s game when he attended one of the events at MSF. He contributed on both ends at the open run and he’s continuing that trend early in the season for Dexter. He’s definitely a high level player to watch the rest of this season.
Gryphon Mayes Gryphon Mayes 6'6" | PF Pinckney | 2022 State MI (2022, F, Pinckney)
Mayes impressed with his use of his length and mid range game at Flight Hankamp events this fall. While that’s continuing for Pinckney, he’s also playing the role of a leader and a steadying force.
Trey McKenney (2025, G, Orchard Lake St. Mary’s)
When seeing McKenney up close at a Flight Hankamp Open Run, it was very easy to see what the buzz is all about with this young man. He’s a part of possibly the best backcourt in the state this year. McKenney will be a key part of OLSM’s run at a state title. He has an elite all around game, making him a top notch prospect in the nation in my opinion.
Mason Struck Mason Struck 6'6" | PF Chesaning | 2024 State MI (2024, F, Chesaning)
At a Flight Hankamp Open Run, it was Struck’s ability to effect the game in so many different ways that stood out. That aspect of his game is still shining in high school season. Struck seems to be hitting every single statistical category every time he hits the floor.
Tyler VanEtten (2022, G, Lenawee Christian)
At the Flight Hankamp Open Run, it was VanEtten’s basketball IQ and his ability to always be around the ball and a factor in every possession that stood out. Early this season, he’s continuing to make plays on almost every posession. VanEtten has already notched an impressive 23 point game this year.
Noah Vanlaningham Noah Vanlaningham 5'10" | SG Mattawan | 2024 State MI 2024, G, Mattawan)
Vanlaningham is a gym rat that, needless to say, keeps getting better. This fall we saw a mature game and a nice stroke from deep. Well, Vanlaningham is using that 3 point shot early this season. He’s looked confident and effective shooting the ball from beyond the arc.
Connor Walsh Connor Walsh 6'2" | SF Mattawan | 2024 State MI (2024, F, Mattawan)
Walsh’s upside was obvious at the open run and he’s fulfilling that potential so far this season. Walsh has been a consistent double digit scorer early this season. He’s really going to turn some heads over the next 4 months.
