What would have been a great Saturday match-up will have to wait until January 11, 2022 when the Huskies travel to play the Eagles in San Joaquin League play. In this piece we take an overall look at the top senior class perfomers from last week’s Diablo Inferno tournament hosted by Mission Viejo high school.
Jacob Simon, San Juan Hills – We really liked the vertical threat Simon brought to the table for the Stallions. The 6-foot-5 forward is a high energy/high motor guy who gets out and runs the floor in transition. Simon has great hands and body control when catching and finishing on the run through traffic. Simon can also stretch the floor to the three-point line off the catch and attack the rim on straight-line drives.
Mac West, Capistrano Valley Christian – West was an all-tournament selection and his performance throughout the week made him a well-deserving one. The 6-foot-3 wing – who is pictured on our main page – has really improved his all-around game since we saw him last spring. West has some major pop in his legs when finishing in transition, but can also use his strong frame to absorb and finish through contact. West flashed some improved perimeter shooting ability, as well, hitting pull-up mid-range jumpers off the bounce. Per the CVC twitter account, West averaged 25 points and seven rebounds in his four tournament games.
Mark Reichner, San Juan Hills – Reichner isn’t the flashiest of players in any given game, but he just finds a way to get things done. The 5-foot-11 off-guard is a knock-down shooter off the catch who has added some off-the-bounce game to his arsenal. Reichner is a pretty good vertical athlete with a strong frame which allows him to get into the painted area, find contact, and finish through it around the basket. He led San Juan Hills with 17 points in the game we saw last week.
Myles Che, Fairmont Prep – Che is one of the elite playmaking point guards in all of Orange County and last week was no different. The 6-foot-2 senior plays with great pace and poise under pressure, seems to always make the right reads and passes and can provide a scoring punch when needed. Che knocks down pull-up three’s and mid-range jumpers off the dribble and can attack the basket in transition and finish over length.
Roddie Anderson Roddie Anderson 6'1" | PG Fountain Valley | 2022 State CA-S , Fountain Valley – The UC San Diego-bound point guard has emerged as a triple-double threat this season because of his combination of aggressive attacking mentality and elite athleticism. The 6-foot-2 senior is one of the most dynamic transition scorers in Southern California as his ability to rebound and push the break leads to explosive finishing opportunities.
