As teams begin to play their first games against non-conference opponents, many great competitions have already been played and even more are on tap for the coming days and weeks. Across the state, high-level matchups are taking place as early-season favorites are showing their skills and abilities to handle and dominate on both ends of the floor. As the season continues to ramp up in the next few weeks, watch for the best players and teams to rise to the top of the food chain. Continue reading for a look at some of the best performances from recent action across the state.
Moscow vs. Kellogg: Moscow was able to secure a non-conference victory over Kellogg thanks to a balanced attack on both ends of the floor. Jamari Simpson led all scorers with 22 points, most of which came from the three-point line. Jamari got a lot of help from his teammates as well including a 19 point and 11 rebound game from Bryden Brown who used his physicality to overpower his defenders who did not box out, 15 points and 7 rebounds from Taylor Strong, and 11 points from Sam Kees. Kellogg was led by 21 points from Riply Luna Riply Luna 6'3" | SF Kellogg | 2023 State ID , 17 points from Kolby Luna Kolby Luna 6'3" | CG Kellogg | 2023 State ID , and 13 points from Tanner Groves.
Victory Charter vs. Horseshoe Bend: In a battle of smaller schools from southwest Idaho, Victory Charter was able to come away with a commanding non-conference victory. Throughout the game, Victory Charter applied pressure early and often and they were able to hold Horseshoe Bend to a poor shooting night with lots of turnovers. Victory Charter was led by a great 21 point performance by Noah Palomares Noah Palomares 6'0" | CG Victory Charter | 2024 State ID , who also showed his defensive skills thanks to 5 steals, 16 points and 8 rebounds from Seth Fleshman, and Jasper Luce Jasper Luce 5'11" | PG Victory Charter | 2022 State ID chipped in a solid 14 points and 7 rebounds with a lot of offensive rebounds and great shot selection as well.
