Teams from across the state are playing in one of the premier holiday events in Grand Rapids featuring potential Division 1-3 college athletes. Check out who stood out from Tuesday night’s games below.
Lansing Catholic 83, NorthPointe Christian 73
Alex Watters Alex Watters 6'1" | CG Lansing Catholic | 2022 State MI , 6’0 G, Lansing Catholic 2022”
Alex had the most impressive showing from the Silver Division semifinals, scoring 37 points in Lansing Catholic’s 83-73 win over NorthPointe Christian. Alex was a walking bucket, scoring at all three levels and doing so with ease. His control of the offense and flow of the game helped Lansing Catholic fend off several NorthPointe runs in the second half.
Northview 46, Grandville 33
Kyler Vanderjagt Kyler Vanderjagt 6'4" | 195 lbs | SF Northview | 2022 State MI , 6’4 G, Northview 2022”
Kyler took over the game during winning time, scoring 9 of his game-high 19 points in the third quarter to provide Northview with enough separation to take care of Grandville. He was a problem for the Bulldogs whenever he decided to attack downhill. His size and strength overpowered Grandville as he got deep inside the paint at will. Kyler also had his shooting stroke dialed in from deep.
Jalen Charity Jalen Charity 6'5" | CG Northview | 2022 State MI , 6’5 G, Northview 2022”
Jalen started off the game locked in and appeared to have a purpose for every decision/move that he made. He showed a willingness to drive towards the rim and get quality, high percentage looks in the paint. In transition, Jalen showed hustle and finished a play with a monstrous tip-slam that sent the gym in a frenzy. Defensively, Jalen did a good job of applying pressure on the ball, using his length to alter passing lanes.
Grant George Grant George 6'1" | CG Northview | 2022 State MI , 6’2 G, Northview 2022”
Grant was the first person off the bench for Northview and had a terrific night, knocking down four three-pointers to score 12 off the bench. He’s the perfect sixth-man and brings an added dimension to this Northview team that is loaded with talent as it is. Accounting for a sharpshooter like George while having to deal with the likes of Vanderjagt and Charity is overwhelming for teams.
Cameron Regnerus, 6’6 F, Grandville 2024”
Cameron was the most impactful player for Grandville on Tuesday night. He had, by my count, five blocks and a handful of plays that altered Northview shots in the paint and midrange. A number of blocks Cameron had were plays where he came over on help-side and erased an easy bucket. Cameron displayed quick instincts and a level of effort that is contagious.
