Originally scheduled to have 8 teams, they had two drop out but still featured some very talented teams and players in the event.
Here’s a look at part two of the standouts from day two of the event.
Amani Hansberry Amani Hansberry 6'7" | C Mount St. Joseph | 2023 State #52 Nation MD | 6’8” PF | Mt. St. Joseph’s 2023
Hansberry had himself a great game in a good matchup against Archbishop Ryan’s Thomas Sorber Thomas Sorber 6'9" | C Archbishop Ryan | 2024 State #58 Nation PA , and while they went at it on both ends of the floor Hansberry got the upper hand and Mt. St. Joe’s won on an exciting buzzer beater. Hansberry dominated in the paint making plays on both ends of the floor, he showed good versatility and the ability to play on the perimeter on both ends and he played with a good motor throughout the game. He finished with a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds and also pitched in 4 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks.
Ace Valentine Ace Valentine 6'2" | PG Mount St. Joseph | 2023 State MD | 6’3” CG | Mt. St. Joseph’s 2023
Valentine was the hero of the game hitting the game winning three-pointer as the buzzer sounded, and while he didn’t score much in the beginning of the game he made some huge plays and buckets down the stretch for them. A quick and athletic guard, Valentine pushes the ball in transition and makes good decisions, he’s a good defender both on and off the ball and he is a capable shot maker at multiple levels. He finished with 13 points and 7 rebounds in the win.
Bryson Tucker Bryson Tucker 6'7" | CG IMG Academy | 2024 #15 Nation FL | 6’7” CG | Mt. St. Joseph’s 2024
Tucker, who is considered by many as one of the top prospects in the country in the 2024 class, showed why as he’s immensely talented and has unique size for the position he plays. He’s a guy who is always under control and knows exactly what he wants to do, he gets to spots and is able to elevate over defenders and hit tough and contested shots and he’s athletic in transition and around the rim. He finished with 20 points and put on a clinic in the midrange area.
Luke Boyd Luke Boyd CG Archbishop Ryan | 2022 State PA | 6’1” WG | Archbishop Ryan 2022
Boyd is the senior leader on a relatively young Ryan squad, and he brought it from the jump in their game against Mt. St. Joes scoring 10 of his team high 19 points in the first quarter and getting them off to a good start. He’s a smart player off the ball who moves well to get open and can get open on cuts, coming off of screens and on flairs, and he showed the ability to make shots from all over the floor. He’s a sniper from deep but also showed he can finish among the trees too.
Thomas Sorber Thomas Sorber 6'9" | C Archbishop Ryan | 2024 State #58 Nation PA | 6’9” C | Archbishop Ryan 2024
Sorber is a very intriguing young big man prospect who actually picked up an offer from Richmond after they watched him play, and he battled with Hansberry and their other bigs throughout the game. He’s a throwback technician on the block with good moves and counters with his back to the basket, he has soft touch in the paint with both hands and when they brought the double team he was an excellent passer finding shooters and cutters for easy looks. He finished with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists.
Darren Williams Darren Williams 6'4" | SG Archbishop Ryan | 2024 State PA | 6’0” CG | Archbishop Ryan 2024
Williams is another talented young player for Ryan to keep an eye on, as he showed a lot of potential on both ends of the floor. He’s a naturally quick guard who can play on or off the basketball, he showed he can make shots from deep both creating for himself and working off the ball and he can sit down and really guard the basketball. He finished with 12 points, going 4-for-5 from deep on the game.
