As has been so well documented on Prep Hoops, the top ten teams in the state rankings have been led by some fine performances early in the season. But we don’t want to overlook some of the great individual work that was done in the early going.
Let’s look at some of the early season 6A statistical standouts at the break:
Kernan Bundy Kernan Bundy 6'3" | SG Blue Valley North | 2022 State KS , 6-foot-3 guard, 2022, Blue Valley North:
Bundy has taken the reigns for the defending champion and has them ranked third at the break. Bundy does it all, and he’s currently averaging 19 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists. Shooting has been his calling card in previous years, and he’s hitting 38% from deep so far this year.
Larry Graham, 6-foot-1 guard, 2022, Wichita East:
Ok, sure it’s a small sample size, but what Graham has done so far is pretty impressive. The senior popped for 44 against Southeast, and has at least 20 in each of the first three games. He is averaging 28.3 points per game, to go with 5.0 boards and 2.7 steals.
Zahmere Jackson, 5-foot-11 guard, 2025, Wichita West:
A freshman is doing all he can to build the Pioneers program. He got the opportunity and is doing something with it. He went to the break averaging 17.8 points. He’s knocking down 39% of his 3-point attempts, and is nearly perfect at the line.
Eddie King, 6-foot-1 guard, 2022, KC Harmon:
King started off the season with a bang: 30 points against Blue Valley Southwest. He hit 7-10 from deep in that game. He also scored 27 in a game against Shawne Mission West.
Zaxton King, 6-foot-2 guard, 2024, Lawrence:
Who would have thought Lawrence High would so easily move past the graduation of Zeke Mayo? Well King has considerably softened that blow. He hit the break averaging 20.2 points per game, with just one game scoring fewer than 18. One thing that jumps out about King is how he turns defense into easy buckets. He’s ripping off more than 3 steals a game.
Geremiah Moore Geremiah Moore 5'9" | CG West | 2022 State KS , 5-foot-10 guard, 2022, Wichita Northwest (pictured):
Moore was one of the most explosive quarterbacks in the state this past season. Moore didn’t take long to make the switch to the court. He’s averaging 3.5 assists per game so far this year. He’s a quarter back on the court, excelling as a leader and distributer. He creates 2.8 steals per game too.
