As has been so well documented on Prep Hoops, the top ten teams in the state rankings have been led by some fine performances early in the season. But we don’t want to overlook some of the great individual work that was done in the early going.
Here are some of the 4A statistical standouts at the break (in alphabetical order):
Tyler Boeken, 6-foot-3 forward, 2022, Iola:
Iola was really good last year, finishing 14-8. Boeken was a big part of that success, averaging nearly 10 points and 8 rebounds per game. This year, the senior is pulling down an impressive 10.2 rebounds a night. He has four games with double-digit rebounds, and has also scored double figures in every game.
Caleb Carr, 5-foot-10 guard, 2023, Baldwin:
Talk about getting off to a great start. The Bulldogs won just two games last year. They off to a 4-1 start, with Carr one of several players putting up nice stats. Carr is filling up the stat line, with 17.0 points, 4.6 assists, and 3.2 steals per game. For good measure, he also reels in 3.6 rebounds a game.
Alex Meister, 6-foot-2 guard, 2022, Labette County:
Meister has been really consistent for the Grizzlies this season, averaging 13.5 points and 5.7 rebounds so far. His consistency is evident in that he has scored between 14 and 16 points in five of Labette County’s six games.
Ledjor Rowden, 6-foot guard, 2022, Wamego:
The Red Raiders are riding a three-guard lineup that features Rowden, Burk Springer Burk Springer 5'8" | PG SSA Hoops Elite | 2022 State KS and Jake Fritz Jake Fritz 6'2" | SG Wamego | 2022 State KS all averaging in double figures. Rowden leads the team with 10 3-pointers in five games.
Burk Springer Burk Springer 5'8" | PG SSA Hoops Elite | 2022 State KS , 5-foot-9 guard, 2022, Wamego:
Springer is the scrappy, in-your-face leader of the Red Raiders. He’s averaging 3.2 steals per outing. He’s also making the offense tick, dishing out 5.4 assists. He scores too, leading the balanced offense with a 12.0 scoring average.
