Nakia Smith 2023 5’10 Desoto High School
Nakia is a bully for an undersized point guard. He is confident from all three levels of the floor and can get to his spots off the dribble with ease. I was very impressed with his ability to contort his body and attack the rim with ease. He knows when to cut and always seems to get open whenever his teammates are in trouble. I was very impressed with his ability to defend high-level ball handlers. His long arms seemed to have a knack for poking the ball free. He knows how to use the sideline as a defender and is a scrappy trapper as a help defender. His ability to wreak havoc on the defensive end of the floor created a plethora of opportunities for his team on the other end.
Luke Price 2023 6’0 Reagan High School
Luke is the true definition of a point guard. He specializes in creating open looks for his teammates in the full court. His passing ability allowed Reagan to consistently break any type of full-court pressure that they faced. He has fantastic vision in the half-court as well and knows how to fire tight passes into his teammate’s shooting pockets. He also displayed a real ability to shoot off the catch and stretch the floor. When he is not involved in the offense he is comfortable operating along the wings and corners. He is a very aware player on both ends of the floor and has a real nose for the ball and knows when to pick passes in the passing lanes.
Max George 2023 6’3 Steele High School
Max is an intelligent player who thrives at knocking down shots at all three levels. I loved watching him work on getting to his shot at the midrange and spotting up along the wings and corners to knock down shots beyond the arc. He is great at flashing to the midrange at the high post when the defense is confused from his teammates attacking the rim. He got a plethora of open looks from his ability to find weak spots in the defense. He is a special defender as well, his size allows him to consistently defend positions 1-3 and some undersized forwards. He is great at moving his feet and staying in front of his opponent. I loved watching him work as a help defender, he knew when to come over and trap the ball, as well as his work hedging on the pick and roll and forcing the ball handler to make a different decision.
Aden Mendez 2023 5’11 Warren High School
Aden is a high-level point guard who has the ability to get to his own shot off the bounce at all three levels. He specializes in getting to his one to two dribble pull-up in the midrange which pairs well with Warren’s system that heavily involves three big men. So many teams are worried about protecting the rim and the three-point line and Mendez is good at getting to his shot in the midrange. He is great at going coast to coast and leading the break with his passing and ability to push the ball up the court. He is a scrappy on-ball defender who is good at getting underneath his defenders.
