These seniors are approaching their final high school basketball season and are all poised to make a big splash on the court. Coaches at the next level either have started to or will soon take notice of these very talented players My series on the top uncommitted seniors continues with a look at wings and forwards.
Evan Inselman Evan Inselman 6'6" | SF Bellevue West | 2022 State NE – Bellevue West
The 6’5 senior will be one of the battle-tested veteran leaders for the defending Class A runner-up at Bellevue West this season. Playing with the bevy of Division 1 talent that has walked the halls of Bellevue West these past couple of years, Inselman has been through the gauntlet of varsity basketball and has flashed some brilliant moments in his varsity career. His averages won’t jump off of the page at you but I thoroughly expect Inselman to be one of the breakout players of the season. He’s shown great improvement on both ends of the floor both during high school season and in a solid summer campaign with OSA Freeman. Inselman was a 40% shooter from 3 point range last year and that remains his strong suit. He’ll play a pivotal roll for the T-Birds this year, and his solid summer earned him offers from Morningside and Concordia (NE). I’m sure there’ll be more schools in the area taking a look at Evan by season’s end.
Kuon Kuon Kuon Kuon 6'8" | SF Mount Michael | 2022 State NE – Elkhorn Mount Michael
Kuon Kuon Kuon Kuon 6'8" | SF Mount Michael | 2022 State NE should be one of the top stat sheet stuffers not just in Class B, but in the state of Nebraska altogether. Every bit of 6’8, and with great length for his size, as well as raw athleticism, you can see his upside and potential every time you watch him play. Kuon split time this past summer between Nebraska Supreme and Iowa Barnstormers and showed off his scoring ability more during his time with the Barnstormers. He’ll be tasked with being a veteran leader for a Mount Michael team that lost many key pieces of last year’s team that qualified for the state tournament. I expect him to be a force on both ends of the court and be one of the top players in Class B this season.
Brett Mahony Brett Mahony 6'4" | PF Kearney Catholic | 2022 State NE – Kearney Catholic
Mahoney averaged 18 points a game to go along with 7 rebounds a game during his junior campaign for Kearney Catholic and followed up his high school season with solid senior summer for a talented Lincoln Supreme National 1 squad. Mahony is a multi-sport athlete who has received multiple NAIA offers for basketball and one for football, however, it is on the basketball court where I’ve seen him thrive the most. At 6’6 Mahony has great length for a guy who likes to play both inside and outside. He has shown he is a very capable scorer and a strong rebounder as well. I’d expect Mahony to be near the top of the scoring charts statewide this season and more schools in the area should be keeping tabs on him throughout his senior season.
Gil Jengmer Gil Jengmer 6'8" | PF Grand Island Central Catholic | 2022 State NE – Grand Island Central Catholic
Gil Jengmer Gil Jengmer 6'8" | PF Grand Island Central Catholic | 2022 State NE has come a long long way since I first watched him play as a sophomore. I was thoroughly impressed with his play last spring in Grand Island Central Catholic’s run to a Class C2 state championship and Gil went from one team of Crusaders to another with a strong summer showing for OSA’s 17 Adidas 3SSB squad. Jengmer is a force inside and I’m sure he’ll produce some more highlight-reel quality dunks and blocks inside this coming year. He even stepped outside and hit a few threes this summer with OSA. It seems as though every time I watch Jengmer he has a new improved facet of his game that he’s ready to show off. He’s received offers from some JUCO and NAIA programs in the area and I expect the interest to grow throughout the winter.
