Let’s see which senior players at every position we should keep an eye on in South Dallas as the season commences. The best of the best come from one of two schools, Kimball and Lancaster High Schools. With two schools dominating the rest of the division, we are given a prediction towards how the area will shape up come tournament time. Both schools are equipped with a great combination of guards and bigs, with each school utilizing a fast, up and down game plan dependent on spacing and pick and roll play.
Arterio Morris Arterio Morris 6'4" | PG Dallas Kimball | 2022 State #16 Nation TX | 2022 | 6’4’’ Point Guard | Kimball HS – Love his fluidity around the basket. He’s intelligent, confident, in control. Not the fastest guard in this class but maybe the best all-around. He has a smooth, almost free-flowing game that appears a bit aloof. In reality, Morris’ mind is working faster than his body, putting him in the right spots to make scoring vs. distributing decisions. Morris has gotten better every year and possesses high offensive awareness. His step-back fadeaway jumper is unguardable on the high school level.
Chauncey Gibson Chauncey Gibson 6'6" | SG Dallas Kimball | 2022 State TX | 2022 | 6’6’’ Shooting Guard | Kimball HS – Gibson is absolutely deadly from the perimeter. A knock-down shooter with great mechanics and a high-arcing release. Can pull up from all spots on the court with his jumper. Doesn’t need much space to get off a shot. Possesses a great handle allows him to shake off defenders for wide-open looks. Uses long length and height to shoot over defenders. Once he adds the rest of his game he will be a problem. Has enough tools for now to be a lethal offensive weapon. Just needs to improve attacks on the basket, add upper body strength and predict defensive adjustments with more clarity.
Trae Clayton Trae Clayton 6'5" | SF Dallas Kimball | 2022 State TX | 2022 | 6’5’’ Small Forward | Kimball HS –
A swiss-army knife offensively. Can do a bit of everything at a high level. A big, strong frame lets him attack the basket and absorb contact. Endless motor mixed with elite athleticism makes him an impossible guard coming off the perimeter. Has the ability to knock done shots, creating space between himself and the defender which allows him to steamroll to the basket. A powerful presence inside. If he could add catch-and-shoot elements to his offensive game he would be an even tougher cover. Is able to dominate in high school on elite athleticism. Will be a national talent on the collegiate level.
Micah Clark Micah Clark 6'6" | PF Lancaster | 2022 State TX | 2022 | 6’6’’ Power Forward | Lancaster HS – Reminds one of a young Montrezl Harrell. Endless energy and drive to do the little things to win games. A monster athlete who once in transition, is strides ahead of defenders. Clark can not be guarded in open court. Muscular builds keep defenders off him while in attack mode by using broad shoulders and width. High efficiency extends out to 15 feet with his solid catch and shoot abilities. He can take it coast to coast but works better catching long outlet passes to beat his man downcourt. Willing passer makes him prime for the next level where he will be asked to be more than just a scorer.
Kyron Henderson Kyron Henderson 6'6" | PF Dallas Kimball | 2022 State TX | 2022 | 6’6’’ Power Forward | Kimball HS – Running mate of Arterio Morris Arterio Morris 6'4" | PG Dallas Kimball | 2022 State #16 Nation TX . Is a willing passer in transition but can also use athleticism to attack the basket with force. Strong, but not immobile. Has speed and some handleability to play of teammates in the halfcourt. He is a two-sport varsity player, so he understands offensive awareness and in-game playcalling. Creates looks for his teammates with immovable picks to free up guards for perimeter play. Can just as easily roll to the basket like a tidal wave, destroying any opposition in its wake.
Dorien Goodman Dorien Goodman 5'10" | PG Lancaster | 2022 State TX | 2022 | 5’10’’ Point Guard | Lancaster HS – Has a knack for second-chance shots and loose balls. Active hands lead to steals and poke out, throwing off opposing teams’ flow. Has a floater with range, reminiscent of Immanuel Quickley at Kentucky. He is a prototypical lead guard. Invested in setting up teammates but can switch to get his own shot if the offense stagnates. Puts the ball on a string, manipulating defense to collapse on his drives so he can sling pinpoint passes to teammates waiting on the perimeter or cutting to the basket. Great pacesetter. Understand when to switch gears for himself and team to maintain the flow of thegame and control tempo.
