The basketball program has been a mecca of talent over the last two decades and this might be the deepest team the school has ever had at one time. They are sure to be a powerhouse in UIL competition and will build upon last year’s championship for the next three years.
This grouping of 6A Region II Division 11 Juniors boasts a wealth of front-court talent, featuring a diverse skill set of rebounding, defense, and the all-important, shooting. Every point guard on this list can pass with the best of them. Some, like Keith Richard Keith Richard 6'2" | PG South Oak Cliff | 2023 State TX have the skills and swag to take the next step.
Ronald Holland Ronald Holland 6'9" | PF Duncanville | 2023 TX | 2023 | 6’8” Power Forward | Duncanville HS – If Holland gets space in the paint with his right hand — lookout. The forward has a tight handle which allows him to dribble past slower bigs to the basket. In transition, he uses long strides and minimal dribbles to get ahead on breaks for easy flashes, where his athleticism and hops are on full display.
Cameron Barnes Cameron Barnes 6'10" | C Duncanville | 2023 State #128 Nation TX | 2023 | 6’9” Power Forward | Duncanville HS – A man among boys. Reminds one of Chris Bosh. Possesses a nice mix of finesse and power attacking the basket. Has good timing on blocks and weak side help. Needs to add muscle to not get pushed out of position on post-ups but is able to use height and feel to get scores around the basket.
Ashton Hardaway | 2023 | 6’7” Power Forward | Duncanville HS – Hardaway is a modern stretch-forward with a solid three-point stroke and good enough handles to create off the dribble. Hardaway has the potential to be one of the best shooters in the 6A Region II, if not the state, and will be a much-herald senior next year towards recruitment. Bigs of his size and skill are highly sought after to add spacing and shooting in the front-court.
DarKaun King DarKaun King 6'7" | PF TACA | 2024 State TX | 2023 | 6’7” Power Forward | Waxahachie HS – His broad, wide frame gives him a power advantage inside. Displays nice touch around the basket and can even leak out for threes at the top of the key. Has a good motor for age on offensive rebounds and going after his own misses. Needs to increase offensive awareness and a quicker release on shot in coming season to take the next step.
Keith Richard Keith Richard 6'2" | PG South Oak Cliff | 2023 State TX | 2023 | 6’1” Point Guard/ Shooting Guard | Cedar Hill HS – A joy to watch when coming downhill. Flashy but intelligent, can pull up off dribble to knock down a jumper or find teammates with precision passing. Has the dawg in him you want to see from your point of attack. Can attack the basket from either hand.
Evan Phelps Evan Phelps 6'0" | PG Duncanville | 2023 State TX | 2023 | 6’0” Point Guard | Duncanville HS – A facilitator, through and through. Quick enough attacking the basket. Sturdy handles, always looking for others. Unselfish at the point. Good utility player with the potential to be more if given extended minutes.
Jackson Prince Jackson Prince 6'0" | SG Duncanville | 2023 State TX | 2023 | 6’1” Point Guard/ Shooting Guard | Duncanville HS – They call the kid “instant offense” for a reason. Do not leave Prince unguarded or he will make you look foolish. Nice ability on the drive as a cutter under the basket. Very confident on offense, and backs it up with his bag of tricks. Repeat: do not leave him open.
