Within this article I will break down and discuss some of the top players in the Class of 2023. With so much talent lodged into this class I have decided to break this article down into parts, this is Part I of that powerful Class.
Ron Holland Ron Holland 6'9" | PF Duncanville | 2023 State #7 Nation TX | F | Drive Nation | Duncanville HS
The anchor and engine to the #1 team in the state of Texas and top 3 Team in the country. Holland brings an energy to the game of basketball that is often unmatched by his opponent. His 6’8 frame, and 1% athleticism puts him in rare company in the world. A double-double machine Holland affects the game on both ends of the floor. His ability to step out and shoot the 15-footer along with the three ball at times has taking him to even more heights. Ranked #1 in our Prep Hoops state rankings, Holland looks to continue to dominate his competition and lift the Panthers to yet another state championship under his reign.
Ja’Kobe Walter Ja’Kobe Walter 6'5" | SG Mckinney | 2023 #15 Nation MO | G |Team Trae Young Elite | McKinney HS
#3 in our Prep Hoops Rankings, Walter’s size and length at the guard spot is a beautiful thing to watch. He plays the game with grace and never forces anything. Standing at 6’5 gives Walter the ability to see over smaller guards and make passes that many can’t at his size. Walter’s impact on both ends of the floor is noticeable. In recent years he has made himself a legitimate threat from three. Leaving him open isn’t an option many coaches will take. Defensively he bothers smaller guards with his length and ability to move his feet on defense to stay in front of his opponent. With Walter the Lions are primed for a strong top district finish and good run to the state championship.
Finley Bizjack Finley Bizjack 6'5" | CG Byron Nelson | 2023 State #131 Nation TX | SG | Southern Assault 3SSB | Byron Nelson HS
Bizjack’s 2021-2022 campaign is about to be filled with a lot of points. A certified “bucket getter” in more ways than one Finley looks to build on a strong sophomore season where he was District 4-6A Co MVP. Finley scores in many ways and in bunches. Finley is patient in his approach as a scorer but once he attacks its like a viper biting. Finley hits his opponents with a fury of scoring outburst whether it be with a strong attack towards the basket. Pull ups left or right or the occasion three ball that he hits with high efficiency. Finley may double back as MVP in District 4-6A.
RJ Jones | G | Drive Nation EYBL | John Paull II HS
Jones is another one of those explosive scorers. Able to play on or off the ball Jones with his 6’4 frame and handle to get to whatever spot he wants on the floor is a matchup nightmare. Along with his 6’4 frame he adds a strong upper body that allows him to finish strong at the rim with either hand. Jones posses and jump shot that is textbook with the perfect follow through to go with the exceptional arch on his shot. Last years District 5-6A offensively Player of the year Jones put together many big games during his sophomore year that let the whole district and world know he is next level when it comes to scoring the basketball. With his array of moves to put the ball in basket I see Jones dominating yet again going into his junior campaign.
Drew Steffe Drew Steffe 6'6" | PG Frisco Memorial | 2023 State #122 Nation TX | G | Team Griffin | Frisco Memorial HS
One of the more complete offensive players in his class. Steffe is a shooting extraordinaire. Over the past few seasons Steffe has added an ability to handle the basketball at a high level, running the point guard spot for his Team Griffin AAU team and at times for Frisco Memorial. With shooting being one of Steffe strongest attributes his ability to create off the dribble not only for himself but for his teammates as well is what puts Steffe as one of the top players in his class. Currently ranked #6 in our Prep Hoops rankings Steffe time and time again proves why he is one the best players not on in the state of Texas but in the country.
RJ Chatman | PG | BBSS National | Sachse HS
#1 in our DFW top point guard rankings Chatman is a blur with the basketball. Possessing that 1% speed and explosiveness that you see in only the once in a lifetime player. Chatman uses that 1% speed and explosiveness to perfection. His preseason campaign was filled with deep three balls and buzzer beaters to lift his team to tough victories. Chatman’s ability to stop on the dime going left or right to pull up off either hand is one of many strong attributes he has in his repertoire. An exceptional shooter with extraordinary vision Chatman see’s many plays before they happen. He’s looking to build upon District 9-6A 1st Team honors. With his ability to create opportunities for others on the basketball court Chatman will need every thing within his arsenal to get the Mustangs to a playoff birth and strong push in the playoffs. A feat that if accomplished should catapult Chatman up the rankings.
