We’ve already broken down some of the top 2022 and overall (where Nathan Dudukovich Nathan Dudukovich 6'2" | SG Lakota West | 2023 State OH was featured) performers, but here are the other top 2023’s from the event.
Deshawne Crim Deshawne Crim 6'2" | PG Fairfield | 2023 State OH , 6’1 PG Fairfield 2023: Crim plays with the city league toughness but has real vision and pace to his game which is a unique combination for a high school point guard. Crim has a lot of shake with the ball in his hands despite not being the most explosive athlete. I was very impressed with how Crim played alongside other talented guards for Fairfield. The Indians have a chance to be one of the best teams in SW Ohio due to play from guards like Crim.
Kanye Moreland Kanye Moreland 5'11" | CG Cincinnati Woodward | 2023 State OH , 6’0 CG Woodward 2023: Moreland was scoring often for Woodward in their victory over Beechcroft alongside star PG Paul McMillan IV Paul McMillan IV 6'2" | PG Woodward | 2022 State #229 Nation OH . Moreland has a lot of offensive talent with his ability to create his own shot and his aggressiveness. With a variety of guys who are capable scorers that can take advantage of the defensive attention McMillan draws, Woodward can be one of the best teams in Division II.
Aj Leen Aj Leen 6'2" | SF Kettering Alter | 2023 State OH , 6’2 SF Kettering Alter 2023: Jacob Conner Jacob Conner 6'7" | PF Alter | 2022 State OH was the star for Alter but he needed production from his role guys and Leen came up clutch with the game-winning buzzer-beating 3-pointer to give Alter the upset victory over Homestead. Leen and Anthony Ruffolo Anthony Ruffolo 5'10" | PG Archbishop Alter | 2023 State OH were both key players in their victory, expect both of them to continue to produce for Alter this season.
Sam Whitmer Sam Whitmer 6'3" | SF Elder | 2023 State OH , 6’4 SF Elder 2023: Whitmer was the most impressive offensive player for Elder in their season opening loss to Carmel. Whitmer was creating looks for himself and actually creating offense in a system oriented Elder style. Look for Whitmer to continue to put up scoring numbers in the GCL-South and be a breakout player this season.
