So what did we learn about some programs and players early on in the season ? Let’s take a look at some of the teams and players that have caught our attention early on this season.
Combine Academy has some different players leading the way but have seen the same results! With the departure of several players that were productive last season, many assumed that Combine may struggle early on in the season. However The Goats and their outstanding coaching staff have not missed a beat, beginning the season with a 6-0 record.
Vertical Academy Junior Guard Treymane Parker Treymane Parker 6'3" | CG OT Elite | 2023 #169 Nation GA has become a national prospect! Last season he led New Life Christian to a NACA National Championship and took home Tourney MVP honors. This season he made the move to Vertical and has not missed a beat. He’s showcasing his ability against all types of competition across the country and proving that he should be mentioned with the other highly ranked Guards in the 2023 class.
Greensboro Day School continues to play at a high level! The Bengals and Coach Freddy Johnson are well known for being one of the top programs in the state and a team that has been in the top 25 nationally numerous times. This season they return a nice amount of talent and have gotten off to an 8-0 start with one of those wins coming against Oak Hill Academy.
Derrick Benbow Jr Derrick Benbow Jr 6'3" | CG White Oak | 2024 State NC can put the ball in the bucket! The Sophomore has found his rhythm early on in his first season at Living Water Christian averaging twenty-six points per contest. He plays the game with a high amount of confidence, impressive athleticism and seems to get better each time we see him play.
Moravian Prep is once again one of the top teams in the State! They enter December undefeated after getting wins over Fayetteville Academy and Bull City Prep this past weekend. In the mix as one of the better overall shooting teams in the state as well, they are team that can absolutely fill it up from three point land when they get hot.
Paul McNeil Paul McNeil 6'6" | SG Richmond County | 2024 State #172 Nation NC continues to prove himself! The Richmond Raiders have started off the season with back to back games that went to the wire and McNeil was huge for his team in both games. Averaging 25 Points through the first two games, he’s showcasing why he is already mentioned in the Top 25 nationally in his class.
Liberty Heights has a roster full of college prospects! If you’re a College Coach looking for 2022 and 2023 talent, Liberty Heights should be one of the stops you make! They feature plenty of talent and size with numerous players that we feel will be able to contribute early on in their college careers.
The Burlington School will have a chance to repeat this season! Although they lost several players to graduation, they brought in Junior Wing prospect Avion Pinner Avion Pinner 6'9" | PF Concord Academy | 2023 State NC who has proven himself as a special talent as well as Senior Guard Kheni Briggs Kheni Briggs 6'4" | CG The Burlington School | 2022 State NC who has already signed Charleston Southern.
