Continue ReadingThis holiday week we will try and keep it on theme and look at some player superlatives as we countdown the days until opening tip off for high school hoops in Kansas! Here we take a look at the stuffing (the best part of the Thanksgiving meal in my opinion), those who are returning that can fill up the stat sheet.
Will Rost Will Rost 6'3" | SG Aquinas | 2023 State KS , 6’5 Wing, St Thomas Aquinas, 2023: With a player efficiency rating of over 16, averaging over 15 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and nearly a steal per game, Rost is a stat sheet stuffer at the high school level, and one of the premier shooters of the basketball in the state. Look out for more of the same this season after a tremendous grassroots season and an expanded role for what should be a much improved Aquinas group.
Kernan Bundy Kernan Bundy 6'3" | SG Blue Valley North | 2022 State KS , 6’3 Guard, Blue Valley North, 2022: Coming off a dream season for the basketball team at Blue Valley North and being a major back court contributor averaging 13 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists per game while contributing over a steal per game and half a block shot per game, Bundy will be back with a much expanded role and look for the stat line across the board to fill up as he has the athletic ability and talent to contributor all over. A gifted scorer both in transition and in the half court, a top tier defender, rebounds the ball with physicality, and showed his playmaking ability this grassroots season.
Mozae Downing-Rivers Mozae Downing-Rivers 6'3" | PG Free State | 2022 State KS , 6’4 Point Guard, Lawrence Free State, 2022: Put together the complete package as a back court player throughout his career, and his size and athleticism help amplify those attributes. If you were looking for triple double candidates for this high school season, Rivers could be on that short list. Has great court vision, gets into the painted area at will, and rebounds on both ends when locked in.
Trevor Mcbride Trevor Mcbride 6'2" | CG Basehor Linwood | 2022 State KS , 6’1 Point Guard, Basehor-Linwood, 2022: A do it all point guard who can get you numbers across the board on both ends of the floor. Averaged 11 points, 5.5 assists, 2.7 rebounds, and 2 steals per game last season. Continued to improve his play making ability over the grassroots season and found more ways to get on the glass as well. Expect more fillable numbers to be produced this season as well.
BJ Redic BJ Redic 6'2" | SF Andover | 2023 State KS , 6’2 Guard, Andover, 2023: Had a monster grassroots season doing a little bit of everything across the board, which has set him up to have a tremendous season at Andover this year. His athletic ability, aggressiveness, and his skill set variety allows him to impact the game scoring the ball going to the basket and in the mid range, rebounds on both ends of the floor and when getting downhill can find teammates. Should have some big time stat lines this season.
Britton Dutton Britton Dutton 6'0" | SG Argo Comm | 2023 State KS , 6’1 SG, Ellinwood, 2023 (Pictured): An electric player who will be looked on to carry a major load once again for Ellinwood this year. His scoring from all three levels and overall play making ability will have Dutton putting up some monster All State numbers. Dutton is dynamic and with a high usage rate this year, will be someone to be box score watching on, especially in the scoring department.
