Continue ReadingWith the regular season approaching, we take a look at some of Volcano Vista’s roster for this upcoming season. After going 5-5 in a shortened regular season last year, the Volcano Vista Hawks had a busy off-season and look reloaded for this upcoming year led by Coach Greg Brown. After being invited to a Volcano Vista practice earlier today, I also caught up with Coach Brown to hear him speak highly of his players.
Jakwon Hill Jakwon Hill 6'1" | CG Volcano Vista | 2022 State NM – 6’0 Guard “Volcano Vista” Class of 2022
Jakwon Hill Jakwon Hill 6'1" | CG Volcano Vista | 2022 State NM is one of the top players in New Mexico and is the leader of the Volcano Vista Hawks this upcoming season. He has been a four year varsity player since his freshman year and has improved his play every season in high-school. He is a dynamic offensive player who can score from anywhere on the floor and is a key component for the Volcano Vista Hawks making a run at the 5A State Championship this spring. He has several offers such as Northern New Mexico and New Mexico Highlands among others. By the end of this season you can expect more offers to come his way.
Sean Alter Sean Alter 6'9" | PF Volcano Vista | 2023 State NM – 6’8 Power Forward “Volcano Vista” Class of 2023
Sean Alter Sean Alter 6'9" | PF Volcano Vista | 2023 State NM is one of the most underrated big men from across New Mexico. He is a very athletic post player who can do it all down low in the post and the paint. He is a force to be reckoned with inside and has a nice touch laying the ball in for layups and will get his share of dunks every night. He has improved his game defensively with getting stronger and quicker in the off-season by participating in numerous camps and tournaments. Expect more opportunities and touches for Sean Alter Sean Alter 6'9" | PF Volcano Vista | 2023 State NM this season.
Jaedon Malone– 6’4 Shooting Guard “Volcano Vista” Class of 2022
Shooting Guard Jaedon Malone will be a key component for the Hawks this season with his great scoring and shooting ability. He is great with the basketball and has a great basketball IQ. He is a very underrated help defender who communicates well with his teammates defensively. According to Coach Brown he is also one of the teams leaders and better players that they will go to often this season. He also has a great future in playing college basketball after high school.
Kenyon Aguino Kenyon Aguino 6'7" | PF Volcano Vista | 2025 State #257 Nation NM – 6’5 Power Forward “Volcano Vista” Class of 2025
Freshman Kenyon Aguino Kenyon Aguino 6'7" | PF Volcano Vista | 2025 State #257 Nation NM looks ready to play at the high-school level and will have a huge impact on the game right away with his great post ability down low and his athletic ability inside the paint. He has great basketball IQ and is a great low block player, passer, shooter and is extremely skilled on the offensive end of the ball. He is turning into a nice rebounder for Volcano Vista and according to Coach Brown “the sky is the limit for him”.
Hudson Brown Hudson Brown 5'9" | PG Volcano Vista | 2025 State NM – 5’8 Point Guard “Volcano Vista” Class of 2025
Point Guard Hudson Brown Hudson Brown 5'9" | PG Volcano Vista | 2025 State NM also had a busy off-season working on his game and preparing himself for the high-school level by attending numerous tournaments and camps over this past summer. He is also another freshman on the verge of making a huge impact right away with his gym-rat mentality doing everything on the floor. He is always willing to put in the extra time in the gym and has great teammates who are seniors that he looks up too. He is scrappy and is learning quickly to be a point guard on the high-school level for a great basketball program. He is also one of Volcano Vista’s better shooters from range.
Oscar McCoy Oscar McCoy 5'8" | PG State NM – 5’8 Point Guard “Volcano Vista” Class of 2022
Oscar McCoy Oscar McCoy 5'8" | PG State NM is one of the few true Point Guards in New Mexico and has an all around skill to his game. According to Coach Brown, “Oscar is the engine” to this Volcano Vista Hawks basketball team. He plays both sides of the ball at a high level and is this teams defensive stopper guarding other teams best opposing offensive players. He is the one that makes this team go on transition, and is one of the teams more vocal and verbal leaders who has hit some big shots as a great shooter.
Kieran Cordova– 5’9 Point Guard “Volcano Vista” Class of 2022
Kieran Cordova is a great athlete who plays multiple sports. After just finishing up football season, he is a big part of Volcano Vista’s basketball program as well. According to Coach Brown, “Kieran Cordova is the teams energy guy and culture guy” who is a very solid defender for the Hawks. He can really hit shots for Volcano Vista and is an important piece for the Volcano Vista making a run at the 5A State Championship.
Kaden Valdez Kaden Valdez 5'11" | PG Volcano Vista | 2022 State NM – 5’11 Shooting Guard “Volcano Vista” Class of 2022
Kaden Valdez Kaden Valdez 5'11" | PG Volcano Vista | 2022 State NM just like teammates Kieran Cordova and Tyler Martinez just finished off a great football season campaign and they will have a huge impact in that translating to the basketball programs success as well. Kaden Valdez Kaden Valdez 5'11" | PG Volcano Vista | 2022 State NM has been a four year varsity player like teammate Jakwon Hill Jakwon Hill 6'1" | CG Volcano Vista | 2022 State NM and has been a three year starter for the program as well. He is a tremendous multiple sport athlete who is strong with the basketball and is a great shooter. Coach Brown said “he is looking forward to Kaden’s help this season”.
Tyler Martinez– 6’1 Small Forward “Volcano Vista” Class of 2022
Tyler Martinez had a great football season with his great defense and is looking to do the same this basketball season. According to Coach Brown, “Tyler Martinez is our all purpose guy”. He does all the little things that might not show up in the box scores at the end of games. He defends at a high level and sets up his teammates by setting solid screens to get his shooters open shots. Coach Brown also mentioned that “he is a true competitor and is probably the most competitive guy in their program that they’ve had in a while.”
