Next up in our Season preview series is St. Lucie West Centennial High School coming off a 12-6 record last year and returning several key players. Led by Head Coach Chris Carannante this team should be amongst one of the best in the area this upcoming season. Let’s take a deeper dive into their roster and get some thoughts on the season outlook:
Key Returning Players with last season’s stats:
G Fresh Walters 2022 – 17.3 ppg, 3.6 apg – One of the best guards in the area this dual sport athlete who already holds offers in football is ready for a big senior season ahead. Fresh is lightning quick and can get to the rim with ease. He has a very quick first step and can easily blow by defenders. He plays with a motor that does not stop and is one of the most athletic players in the Treasure Coast.
G Ty Owens 2023 – 4.9 ppg, 2.8 apg – Ty is ready for a breakout season ahead. Ty is a knock down shooter who can get hot in a hurry and fill up the stat sheet. Ty is always looking to attack on offense and is coming off a strong summer on the travel circuit. Ty is an above average defender who can get it done on both ends of the court. Ty plays at a high level, is one of the best shooters in the area for his class and is putting the work in during the off-season to get him ready for a big junior year. I expect a big season ahead for him and the Eagles.
F Zach Brown 2023 – 4.8 ppg, 4.5 rpg- An athletic player with good size can score inside out and plays with high energy on both ends of the court.
G Jaydon Washington 2023 – 4.6 ppg – Another solid athletic guard who can score and hurt you from multiple areas on the court. Plays aggressive and is a solid ball handler able to break down defenses.
Other Returners:
G Jalen Clark 2022
F David Charles 2022
Key Newcomers:
F Joseph Lezeau 2023
G Jamari Ross 2023
G Antwan Smith 2024
Coach shared that he has lots of returning pieces and some exciting newcomers and are looking to build on last year’s 12-6 record. Walters, Owens and Washington can all score at multiple levels and the coach said he trusts any of them to handle the ball. Brown and Lezeau are both threats who will score inside and out while adding good size and rebounding for the team. “We want to play aggressive defense and push the tempo on offense.” I expect this team to compete at a high level and I believe Roger “Fresh” Walters will be a Top 5 scorer in the area and have a big senior season. This team is one of the more athletic teams in the area and will play with a ton of energy on both sides of the court. Key dates for big games this season will be 12/7 against Treasure Coast, 12/10 against Fort Pierce Central, 12/14 against Vero Beach and 1/5 against Martin County. Good luck to the Eagles this upcoming season this should be a very exciting team to watch!
