On Thursday we were at Valley Christian to see them play Los Gatos. Both teams have players working their way into basketball shape after the recent ending of the football season. Here’s a few early standouts.
Pasha Goodarzi Pasha Goodarzi 6'3" | SG Valley Christian | 2023 State CA-N 6’2 SG of Valley Christian HS 2023
Goodarzi one of the better shooters on the court. He plays at a good pace, running the court, and looking to shoot 3-pointers whenever the opportunity presents. He’s quick on the release, uses screens to his advantage. He’s improving his handle to use on the dribble drive pull-up at mid-range. He did drive some.
Chidi Onu Chidi Onu 6'6" | PF Valley Christian | 2022 State CA-N 6’5 F of Valley Christian HS 2022
Onu was probably the leading rebounder in the scrimmage. His long arms and reactions helped him haul in a good number of boards. He worked well inside and around the basket for put back points. He did a good job of running the court. He’s a bit stronger and defended well in the post with a few blocks.
Arya Emarlou 6’1 PG of Los Gatos HS 2022
Emarlou is a quality PG we’re seeing for the first time. He does an excellent job of facilitating in the half court. He knows when to push in transition or set the offense. He’s a good passer, with vision to see players cutting and slashing to the basket. He’s good on the drive, and will make open shots from the 3-point line.
Tyler Cowen 6’6 F of Los Gatos HS 2024
Cowen got off to a good start. He was the most active inside early, scoring with jump hooks, mid-post face up jumpers, and put backs. He had a few good drives along the baseline, along with the short corner jumper. He has long arms and will go after blocks and rebounds. We’ll keep an eye on him.
Nolan Koch Nolan Koch 6'5" | PF Los Gatos | 2024 State CA-N 6’4 PF of Los Gatos HS 2024
Koch did most of his work being physical in the paint going up strong, working to get points on the rebound put back. He’s deliberate with his post moves, drawing multiple fouls ending in free throw attempts. He doesn’t mind the contact inside. He’s a solid body, who’ll work hard defending in the post.
Trent Steiner 6’4 W/F of Los Gatos HS 2022
Steiner is still working his way into basketball form after completing his football season a week ago. All indications are he’ll help this team in one way or the other. He showed he can score in the half court, off strong drives, and spotting up for 3’s in the corner. He’s a good court runner in transition filling lanes and finishing at the rim including a dunk. He has good strength and will help with the rebounding and defending in the post.
