Here are some of the players that got it done in the scoring column.
Rylan Houck Rylan Houck 6'5" | NA lbs | SF Oxford | 2022 State #NA Nation AL (6’5/Small Forward/2022)
School: Oxford HS
Instagram: Rylanhouck
Twitter: @Rylanhouck
Rylan came out the gates and immediately made it known that he could get it done from behind the arc. It was not hard to figure out where the offense for Oxford was coming from, as Rylan scored 14 of his team’s 16 Q1 points. He is a natural scoring with natural scoring instincts. Rylan has good length at 6’5 and uses that length to shoot over defenders. He has size, skill, and pure shooting ability at the wing spot. His C&S is lethal and almost automatic.
He is definitely the alpha talent on his squad and was by far one of the best scorers at the classic.
He has a brilliant floor game that makes him a tough guard. He has a canny way of drawing fouls and getting to the line, an art that elite scorers have in their arsenal. He will be a primary focus of defenses all year, but one man will not keep Rylan in check because his offensive prowess is better than many defenders’ ability in the state.
Kerrington Kiel Kerrington Kiel 6'6" | SG Ramsay | 2023 State AL (6’5/Small Forward/2023)
School: Ramsay HS
Instagram: kerrington.kiel
Twitter: @N/A
Kerrington got going early in the game against Brewbaker Tech and showed his ability to get it done in various ways. He has an off-the-dribble jumper that is a reliable go-to move, and it keeps defenders guessing because he attacks off the bounce with great purpose.
He is a ball-dominant wing player that creates scoring opportunities, and his ability to read the floor and let his options develop will be key for Kerrington and the Rams this year.
With the Rams needing major production from Kerrington due to injuries, Kerrington will have to orchestrate points which won’t be a difficult task for Kerrington as he can get it done at all levels.
Corey Stephenson (6’5/Shooting Guard/2022)
School: Hueytown HS
Instagram: Stbcorey
Twitter: @Stbcorey
Corey is a nightmare to defenders. He puts defenders in some very uncomfortable situations as he is an absolute beast on the offensive end of the court. There is nothing more concerning to a coach than to see one of his players in an iso situation against Co.
He makes tough shots as he does not shy away from making the tough plays.
He attacked mismatches when they presented themselves; he made shots from behind the arc, attacked off the bounce, thrived in transition, and basically produced all game in a variety of ways. Oxford had no answer for him, and looking over the state, there are not going to be many schools, if any, that will slow Co down from putting up huge numbers night in and night out. His scoring numbers will be impeccable because he is an offensive weapon that can get it done at all levels. Corey is definitely one of the state’s premier scoring threats.
Ty Davis Ty Davis 6'5" | SG Mountain Brook | 2024 State #191 Nation AL (6’3/Combo Guard/2024)
School: Mountain Brook HS
Instagram: tddfor3
Twitter: @tydavis_3
Throughout his Jr. High years and up to last year, Ty has been known around the basketball community as one of the most lethal shooters from behind the arc. Mountain Brook has many players that can stroke it from behind the arc, but none puts fear in opposing coaches and makes the team adjust their defenses in the way Ty does.
When he does not have the ball in his hands, he is spacing the floor, just by his presence, as well as keeping his defender from helping.
With the ball being in his hands more this year, I could tell that he is getting more comfortable creating offense for his teammates, but make no mistake about it, he can score the rock with the best of them and is developing his capacity to score off the bounce.
Efrem ‘Butta’ Johnson Efrem ‘Butta’ Johnson 6'4" | NA lbs | SG Grissom | 2022 State #NA Nation AL (6’4/Shooting Guard/2022)
School: Grissom HS
Instagram: N/A
Twitter: @N/A
Before the game got started well, Efrem brought the crowd to their feet with a monster posterizing dunk over one of Spain Park’s players. Efrem got it going early and was a steady source of points for Grissom throughout the game. Whether he is posting smaller guards or making tough shots off the bounce, Efrem is a major threat on the offensive end of the floor.
He attacks off the bounce and can attack out of any situation and at any angle.
He was one of the most prolific pull-up jump shooters at the classic. Efrem has no problems creating a shot and has no problems moving without the ball getting in a position to be the recipient of a created shot opportunity. He is a clutch time performer in which he showed by hitting the game-winning shot with his lethal pull-up J.
More will be coming from the #RamsayTipOffClassic.
