Darren Blocker – 6’6” / Mercersburg Academy / Milbank HGSL / Wing: Blocker is a long, athletic stretch-4 type player who excels at knocking down shots from multiple spots of the floor. His ability to splash home threes was on full display (unofficially 40% from deep across 3 games) at this tournament. Blocker as was an effective rebounder for Mercersburg. Because of a string on injuries, 2021-22 will be Blocker’s second full season of high school hoops, so his best basketball is yet to come.
Wade Chiddick Wade Chiddick 6'5" | SF Westtown School | 2022 State PA – 6’3” / Westtown School / East Coast Power / Combo Guard: Even with all of the nationally ranked superstars on ‘Town’s roster, Chiddick’s well rounded game still manages to catch your eye. He is a high percentage catch and shoot three-point sharpshooter with NBA range. His dribbling skills and court awareness allow Chiddick to run as a point guard if needed. Chiddick is a solid rebounding guard as well. At the other end of the court, Chiddick’s quickness and athleticism make him a plus defender in man-to-man or press/trap defenses.
Anthony “Reese” Purnell Anthony “Reese” Purnell 6'1" | PG Kiski School | 2022 State PA – 6’1” / Kiski School / Philly Pride UAA National / Point Guard: Purnell is an extremely quick and athletic point guard who can play above the rim. He is difficult to guard in the open floor because of his extra burst of speed and his change of direction abilities. Purnell’s three-point shooting continues to improve. Of course, as a high-level point man, he is an unselfish player who moves the rock to open teammates. Purnell averaged 14 ppg. at this event. Kiski School head coach Damien Williams informed me that Purnell has been getting calls from D1 and D2 programs all fall.
Chris Watson – 6’0’ / Mercersburg Academy / Global Squad / Point Guard: This rock steady, high basketball IQ, point guard is the engine that drives the Blue Storm. Watson played almost every minute of all three games at this event and showed no signs of being tired. Additionally, despite all those minutes and being the primary ball handler, he rarely committed a turnover. Watson is a well above average shooter who can score at all three levels. He posted 8.7 ppg. to go along with 4.5 apg. D2/D3 college coaches should be contacting this prospect immediately.
