Continue ReadingThis fall we released our latest rankings for the classes of 2022, 2023, and 2024. What if you took those classes and did an overall ranking regardless of class? This is what they would look like! Once again this is a ranking based on college potential not what their impact will necessarily be this year in high school. This is our Illinois Top 50 Prospects Regardless of Class!
Today we unveil prospects #21 – #25!
#21 Ben VanderWal Ben VanderWal 6'5" | SF Timothy Christian | 2022 State #201 Nation IL (Timothy Christian – 2022)
Last Year’s Rank: NR
This Furman commit has all the makings of the next mid-major star from Illinois. At 6’7” he brings excellent positional size as he can play a four or three at the next level. Elite shot maker from deep with a consistent stroke. He has a quick release and moves well to get open. What has elevated his stock over the last year is the way he explodes to the hoop with his athleticism.
#22 Mike Jones Mike Jones 6'7" | PF Chi-Prep | 2025 State #164 Nation IL (Rockford Lutheran – 2024)
Last Year’s Rank: NR
Jones is a young four man that has a lot of tools to work with. First is what he brings on the defensive end. He swats shots with the best of them as he was a force all of July when we saw him. Offensively he can put it on the deck a little and is efficient with his post touches.
#23 Dekwon Brown Dekwon Brown 6'4" | PG Simeon | 2024 #273 Nation IL (Limestone – 2024)
Last Year’s Rank: NR
Brown recently earned co-MVP at Pangos and was also a standout at the Prep Hoops Top 250 solidifying what we have long thought which is he is one of the top guards in the state’s 2024 class. Electric multi-level scorer that gets in creases for finishes at the rim and has a killer pull up game. Gradually improving as a distributor as well.
#24 Sam Lewis Sam Lewis 6'5" | SF Oak Park River Forest | 2023 State IL (ORPF – 2023)
Last Year’s Rank: NR
Lewis was spectacular all summer. Whether it was with OPRF during June or Meanstreets during July. He is a high level shot maker that has such a free and easy release on his jump shot. Absolutely effortless three point shooter that brings some bounce as well.
#25 Daniel Johnson Daniel Johnson 6'6" | SF Whitney Young | 2023 State #231 Nation IL (Whitney Young – 2023)
Last Year’s Rank: NR
Johnson is primed for a monster junior campaign. Definition of a three and D wing. He is a big time perimeter defender that can shut down the opposing teams top scorer. Also one of the best three point marksmen in Illinois as the lengthy small forward always finds an opening beyond the arc to hit shots off the catch.
