The three day event featured the best post graduate teams from all over the country, ranging from the New England perennial powerhouses to teams in VA, FL, OH, PA, NJ, MD, KS and more.
With so many teams and so much high level talent, I have broken down the standouts into different regions and parts within the regions to make following easier.
We take a look at part one of the standouts in VA, which featured three teams in Fork Union, Hargrave and Massanutten.
If you’d like to watch the entire event, you can stream the playback on the CBG Live Network here.
Kent King | 6’5” WF | Fork Union 2022
FUMA had a big time weekend in Connecticut going 2-0 beating two nationally recognized programs in St. Thomas Moore and Brewster Academy, and King was a big reason as he provided a huge mismatch for the teams. A super long 6’5” wing that can put it on the deck and get to spots, he can make tough shots in the midrange over defenders, he can finish at the rim and he plays with a great motor on both ends. When they needed a play to be made he did it, and he averaged 13 points and 5.5 rebounds per game over the weekend.
Kris King | 6’5” WF | Fork Union 2022
Yep you guessed it, just like his twin Kent, Kris is another high motor wing who has a diverse skill set and can impact the game in a number of ways. The 6’5” wing was fantastic on both ends of the floor as he he used his length to rebound and get deflections, he made shots from multiple levels and brought good energy every time he was on the floor. He finished the weekend averaging 11.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in their two wins.
Tye Thompson | 6’1 PG | Fork Union 2022
Thompson was big time in a number of ways as a ball handler, playmaker, shot maker and defender, but really stepped in their second game in their win over Brewster. Thompson averaged 9.5 points per game in the two games, scoring 10 in their win over Brewster, but as one of the smallest guys on the team he grabbed 8 rebounds against a huge Brewster squad and had 3 steals and 3 assists. He’s a crafty and tough guard who touches the paint and is tough to corral off the bounce.
Zakari McQueen | 6’0” PG | Fork Union 2022
McQueen was a standout at Matoaca and James River High School in the Richmond area, and one thing he could do is score the ball, and he came up huge for them in their win over St. Thomas Moore in their first game. McQueen came off the bench and provided a huge spark with his shooting, going 6-for-9 from the field and 2-for-4 from deep, and he rebounded well grabbing 8 rebounds from the guard position. He did well taking care of the ball and picked his spots and scored it efficiently.
Damir Bishop | 6’7” PF | Fork Union 2022
Bishop was the reason that Fork Union was able to beat Brewster, as the 6’7” forward came up big on both ends of the floor down the stretch hitting some clutch shots and grabbing key rebounds and making plays defensively. He’s long and athletic at the forward position, but it’s his ability to play on the perimeter and make shots and put it on the deck while also guard bigger players that makes him so tough. He finished the game with 11 points, scoring 5 of them in the final two minutes of the close game, and came up big when his team needed him to.
