The three day event featured the best post graduate teams from all over the country, ranging from the New England perennial powerhouses to teams in VA, FL, OH, PA, NJ, MD, KS and more.
With so many teams and so much high level talent, I have broken down the standouts into different regions and parts within the regions to make following easier.
We take a look at standouts from the midwest area, featuring Sunrise Christian Post Grad out of Kansas and Western Reserve out of Ohio.
If you’d like to watch the entire event, you can stream the playback on the CBG Live Network here.
Zytarious Morlte | 6’2” CG | Sunrise Christian Prep 2022
It doesn’t take long for Mortle to catch the eye of coaches and scouts as he’s an exceptional athlete that has good burst and is an explosive athlete as a rebounder and finisher at the rim. He has good shift off the bounce and able to get in the lane at will, he made shots from multiple levels off the bounce and he stayed in attack mode the entire time he was on the floor. He had a huge game in their second game, a win over Scotland Campus where he went for 27 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals.
Cyncier Harrison | 5’10” PG | Sunrise Christian Prep 2022
Harrison is another talented guard for Sunrise, and despite the fact he isn’t the biggest guy on the floor he makes a huge impact with his ball handling and shooting ability. The 5’10” guard is shifty off the bounce and able to create space to make shots, he is a very good shooter from deep and has a good middle game as well and he can defend on the ball well. He only played in the first game for some reason but he finished with 15 points going 3-for-6 from deep.
Jerome Brewer | 6’8” PF | Sunrise Christian Prep 2022
Brewer only played in the second game, but he was fantastic for Sunrise as the big and athletic forward showed a lot of versatility and was productive on both ends of the floor. He’s dynamite in transition where he can handle it and use his size and athleticism to finish above the rim, he showed the ability to make shots from multiple levels and he payed with a great motor on both ends of the floor. He finished with 28 points, 11 rebounds and 3 blocks in their win over Scotland.
Braden Applehans | 6’5” WG | Western Reserve 2022
The New Mexico commit is one of the senior leaders on a young but talented Western Reserve team out of Ohio, and the 6’5” lefty showed he can shoot it from deep consistently and is able to put it on the deck and create as well. He’s a knock down shooter with a quick release and good range, he has good instincts on both ends of the floor and he still has room to get better in a number of ways. He finished the event averaging 14 points per game in their two games.
Trey Autry | 6’3” CG | Western Reserve 2023
Autry showed flashes of brilliance for Western as the 2023 guard has good size and showed good athleticism to go along with a solid skill set. He’s a big guard who can get downhill and finish through traffic and above the rim, he showed shot making ability from multiple levels and he can play efficiently with the ball in his hands. In their close loss to Bridgton, he finished with 11 points on 4-for-5 shooting from the field and 3-for-4 from deep.
Carmelo Adkins Carmelo Adkins 6'4" | SG Western Reserve Acadmey | 2023 State OH | 6’4” WG | Western Reserve 2023
Adkins was a nice find as the 6’4” wing is chock full of potential and showed the ability to play on and off the ball and impact the game on both ends of the floor. He’s a smooth player who can get to spots off the bounce, he can knock it down from deep and has good range and he has good feel on both ends too. He finished the event averaging 14.5 points and going 6-for-13 from deep in two games.
