New names because it was either the first time I had caught them, or there was a new element to their game that merits mention.
Jashaun Boggerty Jashaun Boggerty 6'2" | PG Lakeview (Battle Creek) | 2023 State MI 6-3 2023 Battle Creek Lakeview (pictured at top of article) The biggest eye opener of the camp in my opinion. I was thoroughly impressed with the game of this power wing. I use the term power intentionally. Drove to the basket with force and purpose. Fearless at the rim. Strong in both his the upper and lower body. Defenders seemed to bounce off him as he drove to the rim. Coming off a good summer with UTS Elite. Boggerty and the backcourt at Pennfield are looking to return some hardwood glory to the Cereal City.
Darius Welch 6-5 2023 Lansing Waverly Powerfully built post excelled during the 5-on-5 portion of the camp. Ran the court well for his size. While also showing good short burst explosion at the rim. Did not back down defensively and had a few emphatic blocked shots. Part of a young but talented group of looking to lead a resurgence at Lansing Waverly.
Noah Rainge 6-6 2023 Lincoln-King Academy One of the biggest players in the camp was also one of standouts of the earlier portion of the day. His strength and mobility were readily apparent during the drills. Even with a 240-250 pound frame was beating guards up and down the court during early wind sprints. Easily rose above rim for some powerful finishes. Aggressive defensively and has quick feet for his size. Things slowed down a little as the paced pick up in the scrimmages. But he still did some positive things. Especially on the defensive end. New face for many as he played last year in Connecticut.
Kendall Bentley Kendall Bentley 6'2" | SG River Rouge | 2024 State MI 6-1 2024 River Rogue Part of a strong River Rogue contingent along with Tyler Hamilton. Made the semifinals of the three point shooting contest. Has very repeatable mechanics on a efficient release. More than just a long range shooter though. Penetrates well and has a nice mid range floater. While he is a skilled and efficient ball handler. Is more of a two guard at this point of his development. Not necessarily a problem as he should be able to grow into that position nicely with the presence of fellow 2024 point guard James Weaver James Weaver 5'10" | CG River Rouge | 2024 State MI .
Chandler Allen Chandler Allen 6'5" | SG Warren Lincoln | 2024 State MI 6-5 2024 Detroit Renaissance Similar frame and game to Rainge (see above) One difference is Allen appeared to be a much better shooter. Has a soft touch that is not typical for player his size. Also has a smooth and easy release with range that stretches beyond the arc. Excellent ball handler for his size as well. There is a lot of talent in the Phoenix program within the 2024-2025 classes. Especially on the perimeter. Allen could lead the charge down low.
