Last night was our first look at The Griffin as they started their Independence play with a win over another local private school. RSL Academy was lead by a balance attack as but were lead by Dravyn Gibbs-Lawhorn Dravyn Gibbs-Lawhorn 6'2" | PG Montverde Academy | 2023 #42 Nation FL who was a stat stuffer last night with a stat line of 21 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assist and 4 steals. Dray was shifty and made it look easy. This is just teh tip of the ice berg for him. Freshman star JJ Apathjang JJ Apathjang 6'5" | CG Judge Memorial Catholic | 2025 State UT was just as impressive in his high school debut as he had 15 points. JJ showed why he is rated the #1 player in the Class of 2021. Junior Higby Junior Higby 6'5" | CG RSL Academy | 2023 State UT looked solid at the wing position and David Katoa David Katoa 6'4" | CG Layton | 2024 State #255 Nation UT rounded off some solid overall play. Stephan Osei looked the part as well as a highly rated player out of Canada. Expect more of the same from RSL Academy in the next two games before they head out to play against Montverde.
1A Standouts
Panguitch: Three Bobcats had themselves solid game as they reached double-figures as most of their points came from inside the three-point arc. Fullmer Klyn was dominant in his game one with 17 points and right behind him was Wolfley Paxton who put up 16 points. The double figure trio ends with Bennett Kyler as he had 10 points.
Millard: Brant Stevens and Hunter Rhodes Hunter Rhodes 6'1" | CG Millard | 2023 State UT had respectable games for a good Millard team that will compete this season. Hunter and Brant combined for 4 three-pointers as they both reached double figures. Look for them to build off of this loss and get it going soon.
