In a contested that started about 9:15 PM St. Rita vs Yorkville Christian was absolutely electric as it featured the top three overall prospects in the state regardless of class. What’s even crazier is the best player on the floor wasn’t one of them as a stud 2025 showed out! Read our recap of St. Rita’s 111-103 victory in Kevin Brown TOC: St. Rita vs Yorkville Christian Standouts!
Melvin Bell (St. Rita – 2025)
Bell was the talk of this game early on. The freshman two guard who is in consideration for the #1 overall spot played with poise and was super aggressive from the jump ripping off a ton of points in the first quarter. Super bouncy wing that when he sees an opening in the defense Bell attacks with a burst. Great body control around the hoop maneuvering his body to finish around defenders. Consistently got and-1s. Mixed in some mid-range jumpers, a three, and several transition finishes. Finished with 33 points looking every bit the part of a high-major wing.
James Brown James Brown 6'9" | C Link Academy (from Chicago) | 2024 #66 Nation MO (St. Rita – 2024)
Brown sets at the top of the 2024 rankings and the five-star played like it in this game. He was a monster on the glass and in the open floor. For a center he handles it so well in space. Catches passes when running the court, puts it on the deck, and dunks it with one hand. So fluid doing it. Extremely skilled when he gets it on passes making quick and assertive moves. Advanced feel for scoring in the paint. Dominant rebounder who snatched them all night long finishing with 28 points and 16 rebounds.
Morez Johnson Morez Johnson 6'9" | PF Thornton | 2024 State #33 Nation IL (St. Rita – 2024)
This Illini commit has been a fan favorite in Washington all week. Johnson is explosive around the hoop with his ability to finish. Jump stops, spin moves, rim runs, hitting the offensive glass for second chance points. He did a little bit of everything. Slams it with so much authority. Love the tenacity that he plays with. Finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds.
Jaedin Reyna Jaedin Reyna 6'0" | PG Bishop Noll | 2024 State IN (St. Rita – 2024)
Reyna had the toughest assignment of the night running his squad and checking Schutt. On the defensive end he did as well as he could to make it difficult for the Duke commit. He moved his feet well laterally and contested shots. Pesky defender also came up with his few steals which he seems to get every game. On the offensive end he ran the squad pushing the pace while making smart decisions with the ball. Slick ball handler making it look easy getting to the rim and using his CP3 float game on the regular. Finished with 21 points hitting some key free throws down the stretch. Projects as a high-major player at the next level.
Kaiden Space Kaiden Space 6'2" | SG St.Rita | 2023 State IL (St. Rita – 2023)
Space has been relatively quiet from a scoring standpoint for the Mustangs at the TOC. In this game the 2023 top 15 prospect scored 6 points. Liked how he passed the rock on several dimes and got it to his big men inside.
Jaden Schutt Jaden Schutt 6'5" | SG Yorkville Christian | 2022 State #42 Nation IL (Yorkville Christian – 2022)
The Duke commit still managed to record 26 points despite missing part of the 3rd quarter with an injury. Got off to a bit of a slow start, but then got it rolling from the mid-range. His ability to create his own shot in that 15-18 foot area has really improved considerably over the last year. Best sequence was when he blocked a shot on one end, took it the other way, and drained a three. Played above the rim with a big dunk and flying in for another tip in.
KJ Vasser KJ Vasser 6'3" | SG Yorkville Christian | 2022 State IL (Yorkville Christian – 2022)
Vasser helped his stock considerably with his play this week. Has always been known as a good shooter, but he was unconscious throughout the event including in this game. One of the better pure spot up shooters in the class. Vasser drained an array from deep netting 24 points. Should be a priority small college recruit and might even sneak into D2 territory with the priority placed on shooting.
Tyler Burrows Tyler Burrows 6'3" | SG Yorkville Christian | 2022 State IL (Yorkville Christian – 2022)
Burrows is a tough guard that does the little things well. The 6’2” senior projects as a nice small college recruit because he always seems to be around the ball and making positive things happen. Went for 8 points.
David Douglas David Douglas 6'5" | SG Yorkville Christian | 2023 State IL (Yorkville Christian – 2023)
Douglas is another player that has helped himself with his play the last few days. Long and angular two guard is a sound spot up shooter as he drained five from beyond the arc. Mixed in a couple slippery drives. Projectable prospect that could develop into a D2 recruit. He had 24 points.
Jehvion Starwood Jehvion Starwood 6'3" | SG Oswego East | 2024 State #269 Nation IL (Yorkville Christian – 2024)
Starwood is the young gun for this Yorkville Christian squad. The 6’3” angular lefty has a nice frame and potential to be a two way player. Best right now as a spot up shooter with a clean stroke that will mix in a drive every now and then. Athleticism shows well on both ends. He had 8 points.
