Continue ReadingThe Frontier Athletic Conference had co-champions last season as Hillsboro and Jackson finished with 9-1 seasons within the conference. 2022 brings optimism these two teams can again be the leaders, but also make deeper postseason runs after both fell in the Sectional tournaments. The conference as a whole is quite small and lacks some of the high level talent seen in other parts of the state. In today’s piece, I look at the conference and dive into the expectations for the new year.
Contenders
Hillsboro– The Indians were co-champions in the FAC a year ago and earned the 3-seed in the Division II sectional tournament. Unfortunately they did not make it far as they fell short to Gallia Academy 59-58 in that opener. 2 of the top 4 return for the Indians as they look to take an outright title in 2022. Hunter Price (Sr) is one of the best basketball players in the conference and can create headaches for opposing teams. Quintin Captain (Sr) is also back. Hillsboro on paper has one team to really watch out for which is Jackson. If the Indians can take both games from them, it’ll go a long way in them claiming an outright title in 2022.
Jackson– Similar to conference foe Hillsboro, Jackson found themselves out of the tournament at the hands of Gallia Academy 60-57. The Ironmen also are returning 2 of the top 4 from their co-championship in the FAC. Drew Bragg (Sr) and Evan Spires (Sr) both are back and should be leaned heavily on for Jackson to have success and try to compete for an outright title. Their ability to keep Price contained from Hillsboro as well as hold off the other bigger guys across the conference will go a long way in determining where this team ends up in the final standings.
Rest of the Conference
Chillicothe– Cavaliers lost their skilled big man from a 1-win season ago. Only place to go is up.
McClain- Tigers have an experienced team back led by Bryson Badgley (Sr). Is this enough to compete with Hillsboro and Jackson though?
Miami Trace- Return Andrew Guthrie (So) after a solid freshman campaign, but will lose their big man Logan Rodgers.
Washington Court House- Lions return one of the best athletes in the conference in Tanner LeMaster (Jr), but need more than him to compete after 3-win season in 2021.
