Continue ReadingIt wouldn’t be a typical hoops season in the EDC without having some star power out of West Fargo. With this year being no exception, I touch on five of the biggest names not only in the area, but the state as well. Circle your calendars and grab your popcorn, because it is sure to be a winter full of entertainment for these two rivals.
Carson Hegerle Carson Hegerle 6'3" | SG West Fargo | 2022 State ND – 6’3″/G – West Fargo
When it comes to listing the top players in North Dakota, one name you will find every time is Carson Hegerle Carson Hegerle 6'3" | SG West Fargo | 2022 State ND . An All-State guard for the defending state champion Packers who as a junior averaged 18.4 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.6 steals per game. Not bad for someone who earlier this year committed to play football for North Dakota State University, a Division 1 program. As a basketball player Hegerle has it all. Whether its scoring from anywhere he pleases, running the fast break, showing off his top tier athleticism, or locking down on the defensive end, Carson has no problem filling up the stands. Something I am sure he will replicate at an even higher level this season.
Brett Limke Brett Limke 6'1" | PG West Fargo | 2022 State ND – 6’1″/G – West Fargo
Every basketball team needs a sniper, someone who at any moment can light up the scoreboard and give your squad an offensive boost. For the West Fargo Packers that guy is Brett Limke Brett Limke 6'1" | PG West Fargo | 2022 State ND . A player that not only averaged a solid 13.8 points and 4.3 assists per game last year, but also made 65 three pointers en route to winning a state title. This season long performance was good enough to place Limke on the All-Conference team and solidify him as one of the best guards and shooters in the state. Something that will become even more obvious when his senior campaign gets kicked off in December.
Nick Carlson Nick Carlson 6'4" | SF West Fargo | 2022 State ND – 6’4″/F – West Fargo
Although he did not play as much as his fellow Packer seniors last winter, Nick Carlson Nick Carlson 6'4" | SF West Fargo | 2022 State ND is nobody to take lightly. In the fourteen games he did play as a junior, Carlson averaged 2.1 points and 2.4 rebounds per game while not being apart of a single loss for the defending state champions. Some tools that make the forward a special player include his ability to score from anywhere, rebound at a high level, and protect the rim with great timing. I expect the forward to be one of the most improved players in the area this season as he helps his West Fargo team try to repeat come March.
Michael Nhial Michael Nhial 6'7" | SF West Fargo Sheyenne | 2022 State ND – 6’6″/G – West Fargo Sheyenne
This past year during the 2020-2021 season Nhial became a spark off the bench for the Sheyenne Mustangs. Whether it was posterizing a defender with his off hand, having a nose for the ball in the paint, or hitting one of his 28 three pointer’s, Michael cemented himself as a player that shouldn’t be taken lightly. After having a solid junior year, where we saw the lefty average 6.8 points and 4.4 rebounds per game, it is expected that he will emerge as one of the best players in North Dakota. Will this be the year that Sheyenne can get over the hump and win a ring? If so, I have a feeling that a big reason why will be thanks to Michael Nhial Michael Nhial 6'7" | SF West Fargo Sheyenne | 2022 State ND .
Dominic Dosmann Dominic Dosmann 6'8" | PF WF Sheyenne | 2022 State ND – 6’8″/F – West Fargo Sheyenne
Holding down the middle for Sheyenne this upcoming season is forward Dominic Dosmann Dominic Dosmann 6'8" | PF WF Sheyenne | 2022 State ND . A skilled big man who as a junior averaged 6.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists , and nearly a block a game for the Mustangs. As a towering player with touch around the rim and an ability to anchor the paint blocking shots, Dosmann brings something to his team that is long yearned for by coaches. I believe that showing off an expanded offensive repertoire as a Senior would not only make the college prospect one of the best forwards in the state, but also push his team to the next level.
