Information on the Deuel Program from Coach Peterreins:
“We have 27 players out for basketball in grades 9th-12th. Our focus has been to continue to add skill and put in the time for strength training during the off-season. It’s been great to see the development taking place both in the gym and in the weight room. We had a great summer of hoops and played in team camps across the state and also a competitive league in Sioux Falls. We need to take that experience into this season and keep working towards playing our best team ball.“
Coach Peterreins Take on Player Outlooks for the Season:
“The players have identified their strengths as a team with speed that is able to pace the game on both ends of the floor. They also feel confident in their shooting abilities and handling the basketball. Their goals are to improve their overall team defense through communication and getting consecutive stops to control the flow of games. They also realize it’s going to take a team effort in rebounding.“
Team Outlook from Coach Peterreins:
“This year’s team will have a balance of scorers around the perimeter and teammates who can help create scoring opportunities through attacking. We also add more of a post presence, which will help balance out our offense. There will be plenty of opportunities for others to fill roles and bring their strengths to help this team reach their full potential.”
“This team has gained valuable game experience last season and has 11 returning varsity letter winners. We feel this team has the potential to play at a high level when pacing the game offensively and applying defensive pressure. We will need to have players continue to find their roles and build chemistry to become a complete team. We still need to add toughness on the defensive end and find a way to rebound as a team. Consistency is the key to this season and building off our game experiences from last year.“
Conference Outlook from Coach Peterreins:
“The Lake Central Conference early-season experience team would DeSmet, a pre-season #1Class B and defending State Champs. Sioux Valley will be the top-ranked Class A team in the LCC and finished State Runner Up last season. NEC is balanced this year with many teams able to rise to the top.“
