Continue ReadingThe eighth weekend of play at the 2021 Competitive Edge High School Fall League (King of Prussia, PA) featured intense playoff action as well as a championship game played at an extremely high level. Which means we got to watch a considerable number of prospects compete in meaningful elimination games.
Below is a review of five prospects who played well during Saturday’s playoff contests and the championship game in the Comp Edge Fall League.
JP Baron JP Baron 6'2" | CG Pope John Paul II | 2022 State PA – 6’2” / Senior / Pope John Paul II / NJ Shoreshots / Combo Guard: Baron is a combo-guard who can score at all three levels and on Saturday he did just that in PJP’s run to the semifinals (1-1). In the quarterfinals Baron posted 26 points against WC Henderson. Then in the semis he put up a 20-spot vs. eventual champion Radnor. His high percentage three-point shooting was especially impressive. When Baron was not scoring the ball, his high basketball IQ and excellent court vision enabled him to direct PJP’s half-court offense in an efficient and precise manner. Baron possesses surprising athleticism and a more than respectable vertical. We expect that Baron will continue to post impressive numbers for PJP this winter.
Cole Hargrove Cole Hargrove 6'8" | SF Methacton | 2022 State PA – 6’7” / Senior / Methacton / K-Low Elite / Power Forward: This winter Hargrove will be asked to carry the bulk of the scoring load for Methacton. On Saturday Hargrove did just that as he pushed Methacton to a 2-1 record and an appearance in the semi-finals. Hargrove did a superb job of establishing position and then using his great footwork as well as his physical nature to finish through contact. His tenacious nature on the glass was very impressive as well. Hargrove flashed the ability to hit mid-range and baseline Js. If he can extend his range to behind the arc, Hargrove will be a real problem at the collegiate level as a stretch-4. He holds offers from St. Peter’s and Drexel.
Jackson Hicke Jackson Hicke 6'5" | SF Radnor | 2023 State PA – 6’5” / Junior / Radnor / SJ Hoops Elite-Gray / Wing: One of the hottest 2023 prospects in southeastern Pennsylvania continued to shine on Saturday. In Radnor’s three wins, including a victory in the championship over a deep and talented Archbishop Carroll squad, Hicke further solidified his reputation as a wing who can score at all three levels. He was especially lethal from behind the arc where he knocked home spot up threes as well as triples off the dribble and coming off pick action. Additionally, Hicke showed immense versatility on Saturday as he spent stretches running at the point guard spot as well as effectively guarding Carroll’s electric combo guard Moses Hipps Moses Hipps 6'4" | SG AZ Compass Prep | 2024 State AZ (see below). Hicke posted 20 points (unofficially) in Radnor’s ‘chip win over Carroll. Its only a matter of time before Hicke starts collecting DI offers.
Moses Hipps Moses Hipps 6'4" | SG AZ Compass Prep | 2024 State AZ – 6’2: / Sophomore / Archbishop Carroll / Team Final EYBL / Combo Guard: Widely regarded as one of the automatic 3-point shooters in the region, during this past summer Hipps drastically improved his ball handling skills. Now this crafty combo guard can create scoring opportunities for himself and others using the bounce. In short, he has become one the best all-around guards in Pennsylvania. On Saturday, his scoring and distribution skills were on full display as he led Carroll to a 2-1 record and a championship game appearance. His offensive skills are complimented by great instincts for the game and a willingness to play tenacious defense. Hipps holds offers from LaSalle, Temple, VCU and Fordham. He is a major DI prospect with unlimited potential.
Pierce Justice – 6’0” / Senior / Radnor / East Coast Power / Combo Guard: Justice is a fantastic compliment to Radnor’s main scoring threat (Hicke) as he is a multi-tool player who can get buckets without dominating the ball. Justice moves well without the rock and has a knack for finding holes in the opposing defense. When the ball is swung his direction, Justice can knock down open threes or use a head fake and a couple of dribbles to get to his mid-range jumper. Justice is willing to make the extra pass and rebounds well for his size. He was an important part of Radnor’s title run on Saturday (3-0) and will have a significant role for the Raptors in 2021-22.
