Habib Alidu-Ball (6’7 2023 PF, Madison East)- Habib looks to be one of the best rim protectors in the state this season, as he blocked what I believe was six shots on the night against Milwaukee King. Going up against a 6’7 and 6’8 frontcourt duo, Alidu-Ball was doing everything he could to limit clean looks around the basket. He’s incredibly long and showed great timing to get off the floor and block/contest shots without fouling. He showed some physicality to compete against size for rebounds as well. Only had one bucket on the offensive end, but was a key reason Madison East came away with the win.
Mauryon Turner Mauryon Turner 5'11" | SG Milwaukee King | 2023 State WI (6’4 2023 G, Milwaukee Rufus King)- Milwaukee King’s strength is in their frontcourt, but an emerging guard prospect for them appears to be Mauryon Turner Mauryon Turner 5'11" | SG Milwaukee King | 2023 State WI . The 2023 guard has plenty of length at 6’4, and showed that he can run the point or play on the wing for his team. Physically he’s long and athletic which gives him some versatility on the defensive end. Showed the potential to become a three level scorer as well, hitting a handful of jumpers and also attacking the basket for a couple finishes in the paint.
Davion Thomas-Kampula (6’ 2023 G, Racine St. Catherine’s)- Davion has been on the varsity team at St. Cats since his freshman year, but saw limited playing time behind two Division 1 point guards and a high level Division 3 wing. Now as one of the go-to players, Davion looks ready to perform. In a win over New Berlin West he showed some confidence creating off the dribble, getting to his spots in the mid-range for a pull-up jumper or attacking the basket where he has some acrobatic finishing ability. He competes hard on the defensive end and can guard a bit bigger than his size due to his toughness. Looks to be one of the breakout players in the Metro Classic Conference this season.
Kyle Krantz (5’11 2022 G, Verona)- The senior guard played a key role for Verona in their win over a tough Racine Case squad. He’s a quick and shifty ball handler who can create his own shot off the dribble or put himself into dangerous spots to create for his teammates. Scored 10 points knocking down some tough jumpers from a variety of spots while also getting to the rim. Defensively he has the quickness to move his feet and stick with just about any guard, while also being able to slide into position to take a charge under the basket.
Cameron Werner (6’6 2023 F, Racine Case)- Still a big fan of Cam’s defensive impact. He’s not the quickest but works hard to put himself into spots to make plays as a rim protector, and uses his length to go straight up to make things difficult for opponents around the rim. He walls up so well, and even when he doesn’t get a hand on a shot he makes things difficult for the offensive player and often times forces a miss. Werner rebounds the ball with authority and chins it to avoid coughing it up. Showed some touch around the basket and even a couple of simple post moves that he can execute consistently on his way to 7 points.
Sam Susek (6’5 2023 PF, New Berlin West)- Still just a junior, Sam is a major physical presence down low for New Berlin West. Against St. Cats his guards were able to feed him the ball on the block and watch him back his man down into deep post position to get some high percentage looks. Sam showed soft touch to finish around the basket, and can also step outside and hit the open jumper. Defensively he’s tough to move on the block and he always finds a body to box out. Secured a handful of rebounds and also finished with a team high 17 points.
Terrion Glass-Barnes (5’8 2023 G, Racine St. Catherine’s)- Don’t let his size fool you, as Terrion put in a strong performance in a season opening win for St. Cats. With a handful of players out, Terrion stepped up to fill in a big role on both ends of the floor. Defensively he can get under you by sitting deep in a stance and moving his feet, making things difficult for taller guards trying to handle the ball. Offensively he showed a ton of confidence in his jumper, and impressed with his ability to get squared up and elevate all in one motion. Because of this he was dangerous flying off screens and quickly getting off three point shots before his defender could catch up. Finished with 13 points in the win.
