BJ Omot BJ Omot 6'8" | PF Mankato East | 2022 State #231 Nation MN of Mankato East (6’7” Wing – 2022)
BJ was very exciting to watch this past Sunday. A long, 6’7” player that can handle the ball and create shots for himself. BJ was scoring from everywhere on the court. He used his nice pull-up jumper to perfection and matched it with clean ball fakes that allowed him to drive and finish around the rim. Omot makes scoring the ball look so easy and is definitely a prospect on my radar if I am any power five school.
Puolrah Gong Puolrah Gong 6'6" | PF Mankato East | 2022 State MN of Mankato East (6’6” Wing – 2022)
Whenever it wasn’t BJ scorching the defense with buckets, it was Puolrah. The 6’6” wing is an athletic freak and loves to play above the rim. Gong lived in transition this past Sunday, racking up multiple dunks and pull-up jumpers on the run. Puolrah can do it all and looks much stronger than this summer. He will be a key contributor to a Mankato East squad looking to make a run deep into March.
Ibrahim El-Amin Ibrahim El-Amin 5'10" | PG Minnetonka | 2023 State MN of Minnetonka (5’10” Guard – 2023)
Ibo is a special player. He plays with extreme confidence and is unstoppable scoring the ball. In Minnetonka’s matchup with Mankato East, the 5’10” guard did a great job finishing over and around larger opponents. El-Amin was also hitting tough shot after tough shot from mid range and from beyond the arc. He will be in for a breakout junior season after sitting out last year due to transfer rules.
Tyrell Sappington Tyrell Sappington 5'11" | PG Hopkins | 2022 State MN of Hopkins (5’11” Guard – 2022)
Tyrell Sappington Tyrell Sappington 5'11" | PG Hopkins | 2022 State MN was the best defender I saw this past Sunday without a doubt. At 5’11”, he is usually shorter than his opposing point guard by an inch or two, but it did not matter. Tyrell was playing with maximum effort and intensity at all times, which led to numerous steals and fast break buckets. Sappington is the perfect piece to match this Hopkins team full of scorers. The Royals come into another season as state champion contenders.
Terrence Brown Terrence Brown 6'0" | PG Columbia Heights | 2022 State MN of Columbia Heights (6’0” Guard – 2022)
Terrence has impressed me every time I’ve seen him play this fall league. Brown is very fun to watch and wants to win. Terrence lived in the pick & roll on Sunday, using his abilities to thread the needle with passes, while also being able to finish at the rim. He accounted for at least four Columbia Heights baskets through the p&r in the first half alone versus #1 ranked Park Center. Whoever gets Terrence at the collegiate level is getting a winner.
Alex Mattes Alex Mattes 6'3" | SG East Ridge | 2023 State MN of East Ridge (6’3” Guard – 2023)
Alex Mattes Alex Mattes 6'3" | SG East Ridge | 2023 State MN looks like he could break out this upcoming winter. Alex can put the ball in the basket from all three levels. He can shoot it among the best in the state and possesses sneaky athleticism with tough finishing ability. He used that athleticism to cap off fastbreaks with one-handed dunks to give East Ridge the momentum in their big win over Hopkins. Mattes was also automatic from three off of the catch and shoot. The Raptors could be dark horse contenders in 4A, led by Alex Mattes Alex Mattes 6'3" | SG East Ridge | 2023 State MN and Kendall Blue Kendall Blue 6'6" | SG East Ridge | 2022 State #242 Nation MN .
Andy Stefonowicz Andy Stefonowicz 6'2" | PG Minnetonka | 2024 State MN of Minnetonka (6’1” Guard – 2024)
Andy Stefonowicz Andy Stefonowicz 6'2" | PG Minnetonka | 2024 State MN really stood out to me in their matchup against Mankato East, especially scoring the ball. The 6’1” guard has a smooth jump shot and put on a clinic finishing at the rim on Sunday. He was making all kinds of acrobatic layups to avoid getting his shot blocked. Stefonowicz will be a main piece in a very deep backcourt for Minnetonka. Look for Andy to emerge himself as one of the top 2024 prospects in the state this season.
