MJ Galimah MJ Galimah 6'2" | SG Coon Rapids | 2022 State MN (6’1 2022 PG, Coon Rapids)- The senior point guard is a big reason why Coon Rapids is set to take a step forward this season. He’s even more explosive than I thought, and that showed as he threw down a powerful dunk over his defender off a baseline attack, and nearly had a couple more dunks in traffic. MJ is fast with the ball in his hands, able to get into the paint to draw in a help defender and then hit the open man for a clean look. He really impressed with his passing vision, using no-look passes to misdirect defenders before accurately hitting his teammate with a well-timed pass.
Adreian Mitchell (5’7 2022 G, Maple Grove)- Adreian was an absolute pest on the defensive end for Maple Grove in their win over Duluth East. The undersized guard uses his quickness to his advantage to sit deep in a stance and apply heavy ball pressure at all times. He has great hands to poke the ball free and create transition opportunities for his team. Adreian also elevated to swat the shot of a much taller opponent on one occasion. Offensively he does a nice job of feeding his bigs on the block, and is an active player moving without the ball. Mitchell proved to be dangerous handling the ball in transition as he can effortlessly weave between defenders and push the ball ahead.
Tyrell Sappington Tyrell Sappington 5'11" | PG Hopkins | 2022 State MN (5’11 2022 PG, Hopkins)- Speaking of defensive pests, Tyrell is one of the best on-ball defenders in this 2022 class. He has a motor that never stops on the defensive end, as he’s constantly moving his feet, fighting over screens, and switching on to new players to keep pressuring the ball. Not only does that help disrupt the opposing offense, but as we saw against East Ridge it can also lead to five second calls as he doesn’t give opposing guards an inch of breathing room. He’s no slouch offensively either, as he has a quick burst with the ball in his hands to beat his man to the rim and finish.
Matthew Ellingson (6’5 2022 SF, Coon Rapids)- The 6’5 Ellingson is a versatile piece for Coon Rapids this year, as he provides some size on the defensive end, and multi-level scoring ability offensively. In two wins he showcased his smooth stroke from beyond the arc as he hit a handful of outside shots, and also used his off-ball movement to open up some clean looks inside. He has a bit of explosiveness to get up and finish above the rim with two hands, and also the body control to withstand contact to finish off some tough looks. He’s strong enough to guard inside against forwards while also being able to move his feet with big wings.
Greyson Uelmen Greyson Uelmen 6'2" | PG Minnetonka | 2024 State MN (5’9 2024 PG, Minnetonka)- With how deep Minnetonka’s backcourt is, Greyson may not see a lot of varsity minutes until his junior and senior years, but the sophomore guard has some real game. He was often the smallest player on the floor against Coon Rapids, but was running circles around the defense with his shifty handle. Found a lot of success creating space to get off threes, but wasn’t afraid to take it inside against length. He does a great job of extending out when he finishes to avoid shot blockers, an impressive trait for a player his size. I think he opened up a lot of eyes in the first half as he was carving up the Coon Rapids defense in a variety of ways.
Kayser Hassan Kayser Hassan 6'6" | PF Eastview | 2022 State MN (6’5 2022 F, Eastview)- With how deep Eastview is, there won’t be many guys who put up impressive individual numbers. In a balanced effort against CDH, Kayser made a handful of impressive plays that helped push his team to the win, including a monster dunk in traffic during the first half, in which Hassan attacked the lane and elevated for the explosive slam. Those type of plays not only put points on the board, but with fans back at games this year they’ll provide a huge boost for his team’s momentum. That explosive athleticism translates on the glass and defensive end as well where he can rebound hard and guard opposing forwards on the wing or inside.
Ty Boegeman Ty Boegeman 6'2" | SG Shakopee | 2023 MN (6’3 2023 W, Shakopee)- I think that Ty has the potential to be a breakout player at Shakopee once his senior season rolls around. May end up playing a lot of JV this year due to the deep senior class, but he impressed me Sunday morning against a strong Coon Rapids squad. He looked to be in the 6’3-6’4 range with the ability to handle the ball at times as well as slash from the wing. Tyler was able to get to the rim just about any time he wanted to as he has a tight handle and is always playing under control. Once in the paint he could finish with either hand, and even converted on some tough looks through contact. Impressive performance from the junior prospect.
