Corey Dotson jr Corey Dotson jr 6'4" | SF Cristo Rey | 2024 State MN . (6’4 2024 W, Cristo Rey Jesuit)- Corey’s frame screams potential as he’s just so long and agile at 6’4 with an even longer wingspan. Going up against a 7 footer at times, Corey remained aggressive in the paint, and was out working guys to pull in offensive rebounds in bulk. He showed excellent body control to elevate, collect the ball in the air, and put it right back up for two points. Doesn’t need the ball in his hands a lot to contribute on offense, as he did the bulk of his scoring with putbacks or strong cuts to the rim. Defensively he was able to guard bigger than his size, but he’s also agile enough to guard smaller players on the perimeter. High potential prospect as he continues to improve his perimeter skills.
Brogan Madson (2025 PG, Mankato East)- Both teams were missing some of their best players, but Brogan Madson just took it to Bloomington Jefferson in a win. Right from the jump Brogan got into double digits with a couple of threes and some strong takes to the basket. He’s so quick with the ball in his hands, and has the ability to change directions in a split-second to blow by his man and get to the rim. Was one of the smaller players on the floor but is such a good finisher extending the ball away from shot blockers with his left hand and softly laying it off the glass to score. In the second half he probably dished out 5 assists with a handful more passes leading to open shots as he started drawing in the help defenders and then quickly located the open man. Reminds me a bit of former Cretin-Derham Hall point guard Ryan Larson with his speed and passing vision in the open floor.
Cody Pennebaker Cody Pennebaker 6'5" | SF Park Center | 2022 State MN (6’5 2022 W, Park Center)- Park Center has such a loaded starting five, that any player can take over on any given week. This past weekend it was Cody Pennebaker Cody Pennebaker 6'5" | SF Park Center | 2022 State MN who shined, not only doing so with productivity, but producing in highlight fashion. It seemed like any time he had even an inch to get his balance in the paint, he was going to elevate and dunk it. Whether it was in transition, attacking from the wing, or catching backdoor lobs, Cody was finishing above the rim constantly. Defensively he fits right in with his new team as their whole starting five is long and athletic, which allows them to switch everything because Cody and others can guard just about every spot on the floor at the high school level.
Cade Mcgraw Cade Mcgraw 5'10" | PG Shakopee | 2022 State MN (5’10 2022 PG, Shakopee)- Even though his team came up short against Park Center, Cade wasn’t shying away from the competition. In fact, he was going right at arguably the top team in the state and making plays all game long. Cade is quick and shifty, and against the longer Pirates defenders that paid off as he was able to create space on the perimeter to get off shots with his quick release. Wasn’t afraid to attack the basket against size either, and had a couple of tough finishes at the rim. He’s an unselfish point guard who can get into the paint to create for his teammates, and has the poise to get his team into their offensive sets. Also works hard moving his feet defensively and isn’t afraid to get on the floor for loose balls.
Nolan Winter Nolan Winter 7'0" | PF Lakeville North | 2023 State #98 Nation MN (6’9 2023 F, Lakeville North)- This was my first time seeing Nolan play in person since June I believe (had also watched online with Howard Pulley), and I’m impressed with how he’s been developing physically. He looks a little more filled out and explosive around the rim, which showed when he attacked baseline and threw down a dunk. That was something I hadn’t seen out of him before, and when you combine that with the outside shooting range he showed, it explains why he holds high major offers. Defensively he can guard a few different spots as he has the length to protect the rim, but is also mobile enough to guard some smaller forwards. Really liked his poise and shot selection as he helped Lakeville North beat Cretin-Derham Hall.
Maxsamus Wilson Maxsamus Wilson 6'3" | CG Hopkins | 2023 State MN (6’4 2023 PG, Hopkins)- The energy that Max brings to the floor for this Hopkins team seems to be contagious, as he’s always hyping up his teammates and getting everyone fired up after big plays. Max showed his ability as a playmaker against CDH, setting up his teammates with accurate passes when they cut to the rim, behind the back dimes in transition, and even creating some shots of his own from deep. He showcased his range beyond the arc, but was also impressed with his finishing ability as he was able to attack the gaps and get to the rim at times. Played a key role in helping his team pick up the win.
Donavhan Cain (6’3 2023 G, Cretin-Derham Hall)- Donavhan Cain is so fun to watch in the CDH purple, as you never know what he’s going to do around the rim. In two games on Sunday he was sprinting up the floor for some explosive dunks in transition, knocking down deep threes off the catch, and attacking the basket with some toughness for strong finishes inside. He’s one of the best 2023 guards in the state, and it showed as he put up some solid scoring numbers against two of the top programs in the state on Sunday. A highlight waiting to happen, Donavhan adds an extra element of explosiveness to this CDH roster.
