Myles Barnette Myles Barnette 6'2" | PG Wayzata | 2023 State MN of Wayzata (6’0 junior). In talking about Wayzata in our season preview I believe we mentioned that Myles could crack the line-up this year. After watching him play yesterday I think I’ll upgrade that to “should”. Myles gives Wayzata another ball handler, another playmaker. He had some finishes that really surprised me touching in shots on the move with contesting hands in his way. Good shooter too and I thought he defended well.
Kaden Cook Kaden Cook 6'4" | PF Park Center | 2023 State MN of Park Center (6’4 junior). The latest Cook brother was the top player on a Minnesota Select 16s team this year and now we see that he could be a quality reserve for the Pirates. Park Center is really deep. Trying to crack that line-up is a tough task but we think Kaden has the ability to help off the bench as a defender and active off ball scorer. Kaden was also a high percentage shooter and double figure scorer for Select last year so if he plays JV we think he will grow as a go to scorer there as well.
Anthony Knight of Cretin-Derham Hall (5’10 sophomore). Knight played some varsity last year and some JV with Roseville. He’s now at CDH and will give the team another ball handler, another playmaker. I was very impressed with how Knight pushed the ball yesterday, and how he handled running the second unit. CDH is talented and with Knight they are deeper than I thought.
Carson Koch Carson Koch 6'4" | SG East Ridge | 2022 State MN of East Ridge (6’4 senior). A name that I keep coming back to this fall is Carson Koch Carson Koch 6'4" | SG East Ridge | 2022 State MN . Koch played a bit last year but based on what we’ve seen this fall he has a chance to start, and a chance to have a great season season. And maybe a chance to play college basketball. Koch rebounds very well for a guard, he’s a solid defender, and from what we’ve seen, Carson shots the ball very well. He’s finished on both sides of the rim this fall as well.
Israel Moses and Pj Pounds Pj Pounds 6'7" | SF Delasalle | 2023 MN of DeLaSalle (6’1/6’2 juniors). Moses and Pounds are players that will need experience before they can start to reach their potential. Moses and Pounds need time to develop but they will offer the Islanders depth immediately. Pounds is strong and explosive. He has the potential to be a really good rebounder, shot contester, and finisher around the paint. Moses is more of a wing, and an explosive wing at that. As he learns more and more about the way the Islanders defend, the more he will play. Moses had a dunk yesterday that was a well time, two hand finish over a guy in transition.
Luke Sonnek of Waconia (5’10 senior). Sonnek is a guard with quickness, speed, skill, and toughness. And now he is about to get his chance. Sonnek has had an outstanding fall league scoring for this team consistently leading the team in scoring. He’s a multi sport athlete that has moved from a role player/JV player to a guy that should be in a more prominent role, and he’s having success (hoops and soccer). If this fall is any indication Sonnek will play a strong role this year.
