The gym was filled with talent and recruitable prospects. It was a great event to cover right before the high school season begins. Check out my player breakdowns from each team from the event.
TEAM 1 BREAKDOWN
2022 Aaron Ofstun Aaron Ofstun 6'8" | PF Ra Long | 2022 WA | 6’8 F, RA Long HS
Ofstun is continuing to prove that he is one of the best players in his 2022 class. His size, skillset, and motor help him impact games in multiple facets. Defensively he is special and was the best defender at the showcase. He has good instincts, a long wingspan, quick hands, and athleticism. His offensive skillset is growing, as is his confidence; he scored consistently and in various ways the whole showcase.
2024 Hayden Yore | 5’11 PG, Kelso HS
Hayden was solid all day. He shined during the 1v1 portion of the showcase, both defensively and offensively. Although he wasn’t that aggressive in the 5v5 portion, I was impressed with his IQ and ability to fit a role for his squad. He made the extra pass, he made sure the bigs got touches, and he showed he’s capable of making the open 3.
2023 Deacon Dietz Deacon Dietz 6'3" | SG Mark Morris | 2023 State WA | 6’1 CG, Mark Morris HS
Deacon makes at least one wow-type play every time I watch him, and Saturday was no different. This time it was an acrobatic finish with his weak hand around a 6’10 big. Plays like that are why coaches see so much upside in him. Deacon is also continuing to prove that he can play the PG position for a college program. He did a good job of getting paint touches and pushing in transition to find teammates.
2023 Trystin Marin | 5’10 PG, Castle Rock HS
Trystin played with good energy all day. He is a shifty guard that plays with a bounce in his step. He showed his ability to get by defenders with his quickness and make plays for others. He is best when playing downhill and getting to the rack; he has some crafty finishes in his bag.
2024 Tait Spencer | 6’2 SG, Battleground HS
Tait is a smooth lefty scorer. He isn’t overly quick and he doesn’t have a flashy handle, but he is crafty and understands how to create space. He was one of the best scorers at the showcase in terms of variety— he can score it from all three levels. Expect to see big numbers from him this season. Stock riser for sure in 2024.
