2021-22 Preview: Top Returning Scorers (6A)
In this article:
There are some good players coming back for the 2021-22 season at the 6A level as many of them were huge contributors already this past season. Last season’s scoring leader at 30.1 ppg – Lamar Washington – has moved on to play his senior season in Arizona – but several others are back to pile on the points and hopefully lead their squads far into the post-season.
Here are the top returning scorers for 2021-22 (listed with averages and last year’s ranking in the category).
Jackson Shelstad Jackson Shelstad 6'0" | PG West Linn | 2023 State #55 Nation OR (2023 West Linn) – 26.8 ppg – #2
For most of the year, Shelstad was close to competing against Washington for the state scoring title. This season, it’s quite honestly his spot to take unless he decides to try and average double-digit assists. The 6-foot guard can do it all offensively, especially knock down deep threes, and shot a ridiculous 61 percent from the field. Shelstad recently decided to end his recruitment early and commit to Oregon.
Esyah Pippa-White Esyah Pippa-White 6'2" | PG Gresham | 2023 State OR (2023 Gresham) – 20.8 ppg – #5
Pippa-White had a breakout year offensively and should still be the primary scorer for the Gophers. In fact, now that he’s playing alongside another point guard type in Scotty Riddle Scotty Riddle 6'0" | PG Gresham | 2023 State OR , the 6-foot guard may get even more opportunities playing off the ball. College coaches have indicated they would like to see him shoot from the outside more, so look for Pippa-White to take more threes this year.
Terrence Hill Jr Terrence Hill Jr 6'3" | PG Roosevelt | 2024 State #183 Nation OR (2024 Roosevelt) – 19.5 ppg – #9
Hill burst onto the scene as a freshman and his scoring numbers really shot up when he became essentially the team’s primary ballhandler when teammates Utrillo Morris Utrillo Morris 5'8" | PG Roosevelt | 2024 State OR went down with injury. The 6-foot-2 guard can really fill it up from beyond the arc and can capably create off the dribble as well. With Morris healthy again, it will be interesting to see if that significantly increases Hill’s scoring or not.
Raysean Seamster Raysean Seamster 6'6" | SF Roosevelt | 2022 State OR (2022 Roosevelt) – 19.13 ppg – #10
Roosevelt had several offensive options last season and Seamster was another guy who had a breakout season. The lanky 6-foot-6 swingman does most of his damage attacking the basket and in transition, but his outside shooting continues to improve. The start of his season may be slow as he’s recovering from a summer injury but he will be an offensive threat when he’s 100 percent.
Kavon Bradford Kavon Bradford 6'2" | CG Benson | 2023 State OR (2023 Benson) – 19.07 ppg – #11
Bradford has been developing as a point guard at Benson, but continues to be the team’s primary scorer. The 6-foot-2 guard can really get to the hoop and finish around the basket in a variety of creative ways, but has also been improving with his pull-up jumper. The final task will be for him to continue improvement with his three-point ball to be a true three-level scorer.
