Junior year could prove to be a pivotal one for several players, as the fight for offers heats up. In this article, we take a look at some of the top c/o 2023 players, entering the mix.
Shane Douma-Sanchez Shane Douma-Sanchez 6'0" | PG Del Norte | 2023 State NM 6’0 PG Del Norte (#2) – SDS had a huge breakout sophomore season and is prepared for more. The PG is one of the most explosive scorers in the state evident by his over 25ppg scoring average a season ago.
Carter Teune 5’9 PG Clovis Christian – Let’s give Teune some love. While he may not be the biggest guy or play for the largest school. He has shown that he can produce. The 5’9 PG racked up the numbers last season going for nearly 19 points per game while helping CC to 7 wins in the shortened season.
Judah Casaus Judah Casaus 6'0" | SG Del Norte | 2023 State NM 6’0 SG Del Norte (#8) (featured image) – Casaus returns to form a formidable 1-2 punch. The slasher, scorer is coming off a year where he put up almost 14 per game. The guard had several big scoring outbursts, including 28 vs Albuquerque Academy. His scoring combined with Sanchez’s playmaking provides the defending 4A champs with one of the most dangerous backcourts in the state.
Daemon Ely 6’7 C Taos – Ely is one of the top returning rebounders in the state. The junior big man is a volume glass cleaner that averaged nearly 10 boards per game last season. Look for him to increase his scoring this season making him a breakout candidate as well.
David Chacon David Chacon 6'5" | C Hagerman | 2023 State NM 6’5 C Hagerman (#41) – Always like to show some love for the small school guys. Chacon led 2A Hagerman to a 5-2 League record last season. He will look to improve on his gaudy numbers from a year ago. The junior post man led the Bobcats in scoring and rebounding averaging almost a double-double a night.
