Continue ReadingThe list of elite level prospects from southeastern Pennsylvania (and beyond) who have transferred high schools continues to grow as prospects are taking the court for their new schools at “fall ball” showcases, leagues and open gyms. Since our last installment of the Transfer Watch 2021 series, it has come to our attention that five more exceptionally talented area prospects have jumped to a different school for the 2021-22 academic year.
Among those highlighted in our fifteenth review of transfers for 2021 is a former Top 30 prospect in Texas who is coming to Pennsylvania and another DI prospect headed to the Father Judge.
Mitchell Holmes – 6’10” / Junior / Phelps School / Max Levels Elite / Wing: Holmes comes to the Phelps School from Arlington Oak Ridge HS in Texas where he has a 3rd Team All Dallas-Fort Worth selection and the #28 ranked played in the state. Holmes is a long, electric athlete with a versatile skill set that allows him to play at the 1 through 4 spots. He possesses a high basketball IQ; next level intensity and his jump shot is developing range out to the three-point arc. There is no ceiling on his prospect’s potential. If Holmes continues to improve, he is nine months to a year away from being one of the most sought-after recruits in Pennsylvania. Holds an offer from Stanford.
Rashan Locke-Hicks Rashan Locke-Hicks 5'11" | PG Math, Civics & Sciences | 2023 State PA – 5’9’’ / Junior / Lincoln / Team Final FiDonce / Point Guard: Locke-Hicks played previously at Neumann Goretti. Then in 2020-21 he ran the floor with Sankofa Freedom Academy. In fact, he was playing with SFA as late as June’s Philly HS Live event. Now Locke-Hicks is at Lincoln and that’s bad news for Philadelphia Public League opponents. Public League foes will have a challenging time keeping this speedy and talented floor general out of the paint. Last season Locke-Hicke’s used his circus handles and quick first step to score at the rim frequently (10.6 ppg.). His creative dribbling and passing skills (nearly 4 apg. in ’20-21) remind many of the jaw dropping moves seen on the old AND 1 mixtapes.
Prince Mosengo Prince Mosengo 6'9" | PF Keystone Athletic Academy | 2022 State PA – 6’10” / Senior / Keystone Athletic Acad. / Team Florida / Wing: The former Victory Rock Prep (FL) standout is high DI prospect that brings length, tremendous athleticism, and a soft touch around the basket to the Keystone AA lineup. On the interior Mosengo can absorb contact and then score the ball. When that contact draws a foul call, Mosengo calmly steps to the charity stripe and knocks free throws down at a near perfect clip. On the perimeter, he can pop mid-range jumpers and is showing glimpses of range beyond the arc. At the defensive end, Mosengo’s wingspan and quick reactions make him an intimidating rim protector. Among the schools Mosengo holds offers from are Akron, Iona, South Florida, UNCW and FGCU
Ernest Shelton – 6’4’’ / Junior / Father Judge / Philly Revolution / Shooting Guard: One of the best shooters in southeastern Pennsylvania’s Class of 2023, Shelton is another Bishop McDevitt (Wyncote, PA) prospect who needed to find a new high school program after that school’s closing. Already a much sought-after talent, Shelton only boosted his stock after he “played up” this summer in the 17U age group and killed the competition. For instance, at the Big Shots / Team Final he averaged 15 points a game; posted a tourney high 26 against SK Elite (NY); and was named 17U MVP of that event.
