These seniors are approaching their final high school basketball season and are all poised to make a big splash on the court. Coaches at the next level either have started to or will soon take notice of these very talented players I’ll start at the guard position.
Cale Jacobsen Cale Jacobsen 6'3" | CG Ashland Greenwood | 2022 State NE – Ashland Greenwood
I did a profile piece on Jacobsen towards the end of last summer going into his junior season. He was coming off of a strong campaign for a very talented Lincoln Supreme squad. Unfortunately, an injury suffered during football season last fall sidelined Cale for all of his junior high school season and his senior summer season. The term “gym rat” defines Cale perfectly and may even be an understatement. He’s a tough-as-nails lefty guard with a deep bag of finishing moves at the rim and a strong mid-range game as well. A vocal leader both on and off the court, it’s easy to see Cale is the son of a coach. Prior to his injury Jacobsen received interest from multiple Summit League schools in the region, and he recently took an unofficial visit up the road to Omaha. It’ll be great to see Cale back on the court this winter and he’s most certainly a prospect to watch.
Chandler Meeks Chandler Meeks 6'1" | CG Omaha Westside | 2022 State NE – Omaha Westside
Chandler Meeks Chandler Meeks 6'1" | CG Omaha Westside | 2022 State NE is one of the top slashing guards in the state. The best way to describe his game is that he has the ultimate junkyard dog mentality. He’s not at all afraid to defend the entire length of the court on the defensive end and offensively Meeks flourishes the most when he drives to the rim and finishes through contact. It’s been great to see Meeks’ improvement in ball handling and initiating offense since I first watched him play as a sophomore at Omaha Westside. Strong handles, great court vision, and great finishing at the rim give Meeks some valuable intangibles to compliment his next-level toughness on both ends of the floor. He’s received an offer from Augustana and more schools regionally should be keeping tabs on Chandler throughout his senior campaign.
Reggie Thomas Reggie Thomas 6'0" | SG Omaha Westside | 2022 State NE – Omaha Westside
Meeks’ backcourt mate at Omaha Westside, you don’t see many high school guards built like Reggie Thomas Reggie Thomas 6'0" | SG Omaha Westside | 2022 State NE . The second lefty guard on this list, Thomas, like Meeks has seen minutes at Westside since his freshman year and will bring plenty of experience from both the varsity level and the Adidas circuit with OSA to his final season of high school hoops. Reggie has shown great improvement as a floor general since I first watched him play. He’s an incredibly physical guard who isn’t afraid of contact and similar to his backcourt mate will fight for any rebound.i Thomas recently picked up his first offer from Morningside and I’m sure there’ll be some more schools in the area keeping a close eye on him this winter.
PJ Davis PJ Davis 6'2" | SG Omaha Central | 2022 State NE – Omaha Central
The third lefty guard to be featured on this list, Davis is one of the better three-point shooters at any position and in any class in the state of Nebraska. When he gets going he can score plenty in a hurry. He’s also shown the ability to be more than a shooter and he seems to enjoy a baseline drive to the hoop when his defender closes out hard to defend the three Davis and Loyola Chicago commit Jayden Dawson Jayden Dawson 6'4" | CG Omaha Central | 2022 State NE will give Omaha Central one of the most lethal scoring combos in the state this coming season.
Ben Hunzeker Ben Hunzeker 6'3" | SG Lincoln Southwest | 2022 State NE – Lincoln Southwest
The ultimate glue guy, Ben Hunzeker Ben Hunzeker 6'3" | SG Lincoln Southwest | 2022 State NE does everything a coach could ask for when he’s on the floor. He fights for rebounds, isn’t afraid to dive on the floor for loose balls, and when he’s not making hustle plays off the ball he’s a vital part of any backcourt he’s a part of. Hunzeker is fundamentally sound in all aspects of his game. He was a key cog on a very talented Nebraska Supreme squad this past summer and will be a veteran leader for a young Lincoln Southwest squad this winter. Buy your Ben Hunzeker Ben Hunzeker 6'3" | SG Lincoln Southwest | 2022 State NE stock as soon as you can.
More to come soon.
