It’s tough to run traditional offense at a one-day gathering like the Expo. Some guys don’t mesh well with others on the fly. But some guys just find a way to connect, getting the ball to their teammates even in a one-day showcase. These five guys were some of the best at distributing the ball at the event (in alphabetical order):
Jackson Cross Jackson Cross 6'0" Russell | 2023 KS , Team 9, 6-foot guard, 2023, Russell:
A player we hadn’t seen before, Cross jumped out as a nice new player to watch in the 2023 class. He showed good understanding of how to penetrate and draw the defense, then kick to shooters. His nice handle lets him attack the defense with his eyes up and his wits about him, setting up scorers.
Aaron Doria Aaron Doria 6'2" Frontenac | 2022 KS , Team 10, 6-foot-2 guard, 2022, Frontenac:
Doria impressed with his physical style of play at the point guard. He worked hard to foster a team style of play and to get the ball where his coaches wanted. He drove and dished effectively, particularly feeding the post. Doria showed a lot of maturity and commitment to playing the game right.
Harrison Kisling Harrison Kisling 6'2" | SG Olathe West | 2023 State KS , Team 7, 6-foot-2 guard, 2023, Olathe West (pictured):
One of the more interesting players to watch at the Expo, Kisling was a real playmaker. He pushed the ball hard, but under control, always setting up his teammates. He led a lot of transition drives, drawing defenders and getting the ball off for easy scores by teammates. He kept his head up, seeing the floor and passing the ball aggressively up the court. Kisling did a lot of things to like at Kansas City.
Isaiah Lyons Isaiah Lyons 5'10" | PG Topeka | 2024 State KS , Team 8, 5-foot-8 guard, 2024, Topeka West:
Lyons is a gritty, team-first guard who has a steady handle. He makes good decisions and plays with maturity and understanding for his age. Lyons facilities ball movement on the perimeter and makes good decisions when to penetrate and dish.
Kellan Simoneau Kellan Simoneau 6'2" | PG Rose Hill | 2023 State KS , Team 5, 6-foot-1 guard, 2023, Rose Hill:
Simoneau showed commitment to playing the game right at the Expo. He tried to feed the post, hit cutters and move the ball, even when the style of play got disorganized. He sees the floor and has a feel for team basketball. Simoneau is a top handler who can set up teammates with the dribble.
