Continue ReadingAs someone who arranges their library books by color and lines up their sneakers in their closet based on alphabetizing their brands, categorization is one of my favorite attributes about the natural world. Unfortunately, combo guards defy all senses of categorization as they can’t quite be a point guard, yet aren’t fully a shooting guard. The position is an enigma and one that continually boggles my categorical mind. Nonetheless, continue reading for a look at some of the top combo guards ahead of the 2021-22 season.
Braeden Blackmore Braeden Blackmore 6'2" | SG Bonners Ferry | 2023 State ID , Bonners Ferry: Blackmore is a perfect example of a great combo guard who can play any of the guard positions. He has a great feeling for the overall game and can score at all levels. His free throw shooting percentage has always been high and he does an excellent job of driving into the lane and finishing through contact whenever he sees the opportunity. As a passer, Braeden does a great job of keeping his teammates involved and consistently finds the right player at the right time for an open shot. Watch for Blackmore to be a great player for Bonners Ferry during the upcoming season of play.
Mikey Lloyd Mikey Lloyd 6'4" | SG Jerome | 2022 State ID , Jerome: Lloyd has shown a great ability to score in bunches, and has recently added more of a point guard role to his game. As Mikey takes on a full leadership role during the upcoming season, watch for the ball to be in his hands more often as he runs the offense while also contributing a lot of the points that will be scored. Lloyd plays hard on both ends of the floor whenever he is in the game and is a great overall teammate. Mikey has a ton of potential and his size for a combo guard makes him a great addition or focal point to any offense.
Brandon Bethel Brandon Bethel 5'11" | PG Mountain Home | 2022 State ID , Mountain Home: Bethel has had a great career at Mountain Home so far and will continue to make a big splash during the upcoming season. Bethel has done a great job of leading the offense and also contributes a lot of points in order to keep Mountain Home competitive. Brandon is a pass first guard who can score at all three levels and could easily play as a point guard or shooting guard at the next level depending on what is needed at the time and place.
