Ball handling is always at a premium at such gathers of elite talent. But these five guys stood out as some of the top ball handlers at the Expo (in alphabetical order):
Logan Garner Logan Garner 5'10" | PG El Dorado | 2024 State KS , Team 4, 5-foot-10 guard, 2024, El Dorado:
Garner turned a lot of heads with his elite handle against much older and more physically mature opponents. He is creative and tricky with the ball, slipping through traffic and into position to get the ball to scorers. He is fearless and aggressive, but didn’t put the ball in jeopardy. Teammates must love playing with a guy who can get them the ball.
Da’mykel Hales Da’mykel Hales 6'0" | CG Topeka | 2025 State KS , Team 2, 6-foot guard, 2025, Miege:
Like Garner, Hales played without fear against the advanced talent at the Expo. His long arms and ability to get low on the drive makes his crossover dynamic. He showed a knack for setting up a defender and beating him on the drive. Hales will be a name to remember.
Dasean Lewis Dasean Lewis 5'10" | PG Hugoton | 2024 State KS , Team 8, 5-foot-8 guard, 2024, Hugoton:
Hugoton has a 2024 class to be excited about, and Lewis is another one of the Eagles making the long drive across the state to challenge himself. Lewis was one of the slickest ball handlers at the Expo, pushing it hard up the court and shooting through traffic. He can work in close quarters and get to shots in traffic. Lewis got a little exposure to the varsity at Hugoton last year and should be an exciting guy to watch.
Jacob Padilla Jacob Padilla 5'7" Hayden | 2024 KS , Team 1, 5-foot-7 guard, 2024, Hayden:
Like Lewis, Padilla got a little varsity time last year, and he used the Expo to show everyone just how deft he is with the ball. He’s shifty and clever with the ball, maneuvering through traffic to create opportunities for others. His eyes are always up, and his vision is a by-product of his handle.
Josiah Polynice Josiah Polynice 5'11" | PG Olathe South | 2024 State KS , Team 9, 5-foot-9 guard, 2024, Olathe South:
This guy is something to watch. He’s physical and quick as a flash. He plays the game at a different speed and gets where he wants. He can turn on the jets and put the defense in a panic to keep up. Polynice was one of the most dynamic playmakers at the Expo.
