Conference Commentary
Top Ten: Southwest Minnesota Christian
Southwest Minnesota Christian may not be a top ten team to start the year but it may not take them long to land among the state’s elite. They went 19-3 last season and bring back three of their top four players which makes them a big favorite.
Top Ten Potential: Westbrook-Walnut Grove, Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda, Mountain Lake Area-Comfrey, Hills-Beaver Creek
WWG will have a hard time matching a season where they won 80 plus percent of their games but this is a good program with a couple good pieces returning. We think they will be a step behind the leader but still be in contention. With a pair of all league talents back from a 13-7 team we thin Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda will move into the top contender spot but they do have to figure out how to be WWG. The Coyotes were 0-3 vs WWG a season ago although the games were mostly close. We think they take the next step although they have three starters to replace. With three starters and nearly everything back from the bench Mountain Lake Area-Comfrey should move into a contender spot. Maybe the last of the main group but they will be a tough out each night.
Compete with Most: Murray County Central, Red Rock Central
It will be tough to truly know what Murray County Central is going to be. They have their frontcourt players but the guards have to be replaced. I don’t want to say Red Rock Central is rebuilding because I think they have enough to compete on most nights but they are replacing a lot of graduated players.
Rebuilding: Edgerton, Adrian/Ellsworth
Edgerton won only won league game a season ago and they lost their all league players. It could be a tough year again. I have to believe that with Peyton Lewis Peyton Lewis 6'6" | SG Adrian-Ellsworth | 2022 MN back Adrian/Ellsworth will be better than a one win league team. It’s still a rebuild but they should be a bit better.
