Continue ReadingIt’s early October and we are still running through positional rankings to get you ready for the hoops season to come. This time we are rolling out the top 20 small forwards. At this position we have some of the most athletically gifted players in the Boot. These are players who have a future on the wing at the next level.
The Top Ten
Solomon Washington Solomon Washington 6'7" | SF Carver | 2022 State #127 Nation LA (Carver)
The top player in the state has offers from several Power 5 programs amongst others. He is terrific in the open floor and is one of the best defenders I have seen in recent history. With his perimeter game improving to go with his other attributes, Washington is in line to have a phenomenal season.
Labree Williams Labree Williams 6'6" | SF Calvary Baptist | 2023 #186 Nation FL (Calvary Baptist)
Williams has the most versatile skill set of any forward in the state. He is a frustrating cover because of his ability to play on the perimeter and in the paint. Williams use of the angles and footwork is what sets him apart. That is also what has drawn interest from the SEC to the SWAC for his services.
Jacob Wilson (Liberty)
Wilson is a point forward for the Liberty Patriots who may end up being a point guard on the next level. He handles and distributes the ball well for his height and he is three level scorer. Wilson is become more accurate from three which may make him almost impossible to guard man-to-man on this level.
Jalen Knox Jalen Knox 6'4" | SF Port Allen | 2022 State LA (Port Allen)
This two-time state champion (2A) is more gifted than many would believe. Knox has the ability to take players off the dribble or post up. He is very good around the basket and when he seals a player, they are at his mercy. Knox is better from the perimeter than people think and he can defend five positions on the high school level.
Donald Butler (Walker)
The high-flying forward from Walker spent all summer creating highlight film material on the Prep Hoops Circuit. Butler has the ability to turn defense into offense quickly and only the top guy on this list is better than him running the wing. When he begins to knock down the perimeter jumper, he will be the perfect 3 and D player coaches covet.
Pat Williams Pat Williams 6'6" | SF Wossman | 2022 State LA (Wossman)
Athletically speaking, Williams may be the second best athlete on this list. His ability to get up and down the floor is unreal plus he will finish possessions at the rack more times than not. He can guard all five positions and is a shot blocker as well. His a very gifted individual.
JT Curry JT Curry 6'7" | SF Southern Lab | 2022 State LA (Southern Lab)
Curry is another player who can play almost any position on the floor. His point forward skills will translate to the next level well because he can facilitate as well as score. Curry has top tier playmaking ability and he has displayed traits of a pass first point. This makes him a threat all over the basketball court.
Jordan Brooks Jordan Brooks 6'6" | SF Port Allen | 2022 State LA (Port Allen)
Brooks has blossomed into a player who has the ability to play both ends of the floor at a very high level. He can take players his size off the dribble on one possession and post up the next. Brooks is a bully on the boards as well. He is a value asset and will give his team everything he has while on the floor.
Sedric Applewhite Sedric Applewhite 6'6" | SF Bossier | 2022 State LA (Bossier)
Applewhite proved he could hold his own on the Prep Hoops Circuit. He is a banger who is starting get more comfortable on the perimeter. Applewhite can score over each shoulder and is quick off the floor in rebounding situations. If he begins to make mid-range shots more, the sky is the limit for him.
Marquis Harris Marquis Harris 6'5" | SF Bossier | 2022 State LA (Bossier)
Harris is starting to figure some things out when it comes to playing on the wing. He is super quick off the floor and gaining some confidence handling the ball on the wing. His finishing ability in transition is high level stuff. If defenders do not keep two eyes on this guy, they will pay for not blocking him out. Highlight time!!!
Eleven through Twenty
Treylin Whaley (Livonia) – One of the best wideouts in Louisiana showed he can be a solid forward on the Prep Hoops Circuit. Whaley is a streaky shooter from three but seems to love taking contact when going to the hoop.
Aidan Bevrotte Aidan Bevrotte 6'8" | SF Sandy Creek | 2022 State GA (McMain) – Bevrotte looks more comfortable on the perimeter. He has a sweet stroke from outside and has spot up ability. He can defend three through five as well.
Collin Coates Collin Coates 6'5" | SF University Lab | 2022 State LA (University Lab) – Coates has bulked up a little but still has a solid stroke. He can score from the post to the three comfortably
Calvin Collins Calvin Collins 6'4" | SF BTW (Shreveport) | 2022 State LA (BTW-S’port) – The lefty is a post threat but kills teams with his baseline jumper. Collins is a ferocious rebounder as well.
Chris Landers Chris Landers 6'5" | SF St. Augustine | 2022 State LA (St. Augustine) – Landers can consistently make the corner three. He is a double-double machine because he rebounds well and gets plenty of baskets around the rim.
Jeffarie Landry Jeffarie Landry 6'5" | SF East Jefferson | 2022 State LA (East Jefferson) – Landry is really put together. While his body may be built like a power forward, he can make teams pay from the perimeter. He can score inside and out.
Davieon Coleman Davieon Coleman 6'5" | SF Captain Shreve | 2022 State LA (Captain Shreve) – Coleman can be your point forward one possession and a spot up shooter the next. His game has a ton of versatility which makes him very dangerous.
Nick Bailey Nick Bailey 6'5" | SF Mansfield | 2023 State LA (Mansfield) – Bailey can play all facets of the game well. He is a good screener and an effective rebounder who can also put the ball in the hole. Very underrated forward.
Danny Lewis Danny Lewis 6'5" | SF Westgate | 2022 State LA (Westgate) – Lewis is a power forward with a small forward height. He has a mid-range game and can play with his back to the basket. His future on the next level may be at tight end. Don’t be surprised if he fills out a varsity bench in college however.
Desmond Washington Desmond Washington 6'4" | SF Huntington | 2022 State LA (Huntington) – His gift and curse is that he can play the post very well. Unfortunately, that is what Huntington needs from him. When Washington has it going from the paint or perimeter, he is hard to stop.
