Continue ReadingThis is our final positional breakdown of the 2023 class for this round of the rankings update. In this article, we’ll be looking at the second part of top centers in the state for this class. There’s been a lot of highly regarded prospects and sleepers featured throughout this series, so be sure to check out some of these players.
Jabari Conway Jabari Conway 6'8" | C Bowling Green | 2023 State OH , 6’8 C Bowling Green 2023: Conway played up on the 17U age level and I think it might really pay off for him in the next year or so. Conway was playing against more physically mature bigs and had to match their physicality on both ends. Conway is an intriguing athlete with a long wingspan and can move his feet well on the perimeter. We’ll see if Conway can show off some more consistent scoring moves at Bowling Green HS this season.
Mike Steel Mike Steel 6'8" | C Hudson | 2023 State OH , 6’7 C Hudson 2023: Steel was a guy I’d never heard of before this spring and he really boosted his stock playing for C2K and the Mid Ohio Pumas . Steel is very skilled for a big this age, a good finisher with both hands. Steel is a little behind some other centers his age in terms of strength and physical development, but he has a great skill-set to improve off of. Once Steel adds some muscle and fills out his body, I think he has a very high ceiling to reach.
Aamir Rogers Aamir Rogers 6'6" | C Fairfield | 2023 State OH , 6’6 C Fairfield 2023: Rogers is a two sport stud, getting it done on both the gridiron and the hardwood for Fairfield. I like Roger’s motor that he plays with and he is not afraid to be aggressive with the opposing big he’s matched-up against. Despite being a little shorter than most other centers, Rogers is a great rebounder and interior presence.
Carson Browne Carson Browne 6'8" | C Elder | 2023 State OH , 6’7 C Elder 2023: Browne is a prime breakout candidate in the Cincy area for this upcoming season. Stuck behind seniors last season in the rotation, Browne is going to be a key piece for Elder this season. With him and a group of experienced seniors that played key roles last season, Elder is one of the favorites in the ultra-competitive GCL-South. Browne flashed some intriguing offensive skill last season and has a chance to turn his potential into production.
Jesse Hayes Jesse Hayes 6'7" | C Padua | 2023 State OH , 6’7 C Padua 2023: Hayes has one of the longest wingspans in the state. This allows him to be an elite shot blocker and rebounder. Hayes has also come a long way in the past year and a half both physically and offensively. I’m really intrigued to see how much more Hayes has developed because I only caught him in action once or twice this summer. I wouldn’t be surprised if Hayes continues to rise in the rankings with a strong Junior season.
