This group is unique in not only the number, but the quality of big men in the class. In this article, we take a look at the top post players from the updated class of 2024 rankings.
Khaman Maker Khaman Maker 7'1" | C Trinity | 2024 State #127 Nation NV 7’1 C Desert Valley Prep (#3) – The allure of Maker is obvious. Size and length are valuable commodities in basketball and the 7’1 native of Africa has both in spades. Maker is a good shot blocker with great timing and range. Maker protects the rim at a high level, but what makes him unique is his ability to go out on the perimeter and challenge jumpers. He also does not get enough credit for his offensive ability. Maker is a fluid rim runner, who has shown a soft touch around the rim, evident by the clip below.
Cole Ellena Cole Ellena 6'9" | C Liberty | 2024 State NV 6’9 C Liberty (#11) (featured image) – Ellena possesses a powerful combination of brains and skill. He can protect the basket with the best of them, using his size and good instincts to block shots and gobble up defensive rebounds. He is also a high academic prospect currently sporting a 4.0 GPA.
Anthony Nwuli Anthony Nwuli 6'5" | PF Durango | 2024 UT 6’5 PF Bishop Gorman (#12) – Nwuli strikes me as one of those players that every winning program has. He’s super unselfish and not afraid to do the dirty work for his squad. Nwuli will muscle down low for interior space, battle for in traffic rebounds, or sacrifice his body for extra possessions. He’s also an underrated passer, who has good vision and touch on his deliveries to teammates.
Noah Westbrook Noah Westbrook 6'6" | PF Bishop Gorman | 2024 NV 6’6 PF Bishop Gorman (#13) – Westbrook has an intriguing combination of size and skill. He’s a prototypical stretch 4, who could probably be more described as a skilled 4. Westbrook’s best strengths are his ability to shoot the ball and deliver passes to teammates. He’s one of the top floor spacing forwards in the state.
Javares Reid Javares Reid 6'9" | C Rosemary Anderson Prep | 2024 State OR 6’7 C Liberty (#18) – Reid has really improved over the last few years. He’s always been one of the taller players on the floor, but now he’s one of the more impactful. I saw him quite a bit on the Prephoops circuit, and he played with his motor activated, using effort and energy to impact games. Reid has extremely long arms which allows him to rebound as well as stay in front of ballhandlers when switching ballscreens.
