It shows dedication to show up on a Sunday and play hard. Sheyenne did not have everyone from their squad, the Mustangs have multiple guys in football. Not to mention, the Mustangs are having an OUTSTANDING football season! In this article, we will look at the standout Mustangs from open gym.
SUNDAY STANDOUTS
Michael Nhial Michael Nhial 6'7" | SF West Fargo Sheyenne | 2022 State ND (2022) |6-7 SF| West Fargo Sheyenne/Team Sizzle
He is fresh off an offer from Dakota State. Mike was a flashy one today with many many dunks. He also had a few alley-oops that are highlight tape material. On one dunk it seemed like he was looking down at the rim he was so high in the air. I have said this before, but Nhial is excellent at dunking with either hand or with both. Besides dunks, whams, and flushes, Nhial showed a slick spin-move finish. He was also hitting 3-pointers at a high rate. His step-back 3-pointer is nearly impossible to stop. Mike had an athletic and crafty baseline drive with a hang-in-the-air reverse layup. His stock will only continue to rise as the year goes on.
Dominic Dosmann Dominic Dosmann 6'8" | PF WF Sheyenne | 2022 State ND (2022) |6-8 PF| West Fargo Sheyenne/ECI
He looks more athletic every time I see him play. Dosmann had impressive dunks in warmups. He crashed the O-boards hard this evening. Dom cut really well, you do not see that very often in open gym pick-up games. He had a really great high-low cut for an easy layup. Dosmann also had a throwback give-n-go cut for a bucket. He also showed off his range with a top of the key triple.
Kaleb Larson Kaleb Larson 6'3" | SG West Fargo Sheyenne | 2022 State ND (2022) |6-3 SG| West Fargo Sheyenne/ECI
Big time 3-point shooter with extended range. Larson can legitimately nail three-pointers from NBA range. It does not seem like he has to force it either. His shot looks the same from NBA range as it does from the FT-line. Kaleb also showed a quality step-back move.
Derrick Lobbo Derrick Lobbo 6'2" | SG West Fargo Sheyenne | 2022 ND (2022) |6-2 SG| West Fargo Sheyenne
He is a high-energy player that is full of hustle. It is not very often you see a player fight that hard for offensive rebounds in a preseason open gym. Lobbo showed a sweet spin move and an athletic finish. He also has a nice crossover and the ability to finish after contact.
Matt Gooselaw (2022) |6-5 F| West Fargo Sheyenne
He is long and he runs the floor hard. Matt had some eye-opening dunks in warmups. Besides being an athletic finisher, Matt can also spot-up and drain 3-pointers.
Turo Moni Turo Moni 6'8" | PF West Fargo Sheyenne | 2024 State ND (2024) |6-5 F| West Fargo Sheyenne/ECI
He had an impressive physical finish against a bigger upperclassman. I liked the way Turo talks his game. He spaces to the open spot when teammates attack and Moni lets them know when he is open for a good look.
John Angau John Angau 6'4" | SG West Fargo Sheyenne | 2024 State ND (2024) |6-0 G| West Fargo Sheyenne/Team Sizzle
John looked crafty and he showed his nice jump shot again. He knows his way around the court and he did not shy away from the bigger and stronger older players.
David Kanega David Kanega 5'9" | SG West Fargo Sheyenne | 2024 ND (2024) |5-9 G| West Fargo Sheyenne
This was my first time watching David play and he did a nice job holding his own against the bigger older players. He showed solid ball skills and quick feet. I liked the looks of his smooth mid-range pull-up jumper.
Sullivan Ihry Sullivan Ihry 5'11" | CG West Fargo Sheyenne | 2025 State ND (2025) |5-10 G| West Fargo Sheyenne/Inspired Athletics
This kid seems mature beyond his years. Ihry is a great communicator, especially for a freshman. I was impressed with his physicality, you could not tell he was only a 9th grader out on the floor. Sully has all the fundamentals and he is ball strong. This young Mustang has a bright future.
Zacharia Nhial Zacharia Nhial 6'3" | SG West Fargo Sheyenne | 2025 ND (2025) |6-1 SG| West Fargo Sheyenne
He is the younger brother to Mike Nhial. Much like his brother, Zach looks to have an extra-long wingspan. I like the way he moves and runs up the court. He has nice-looking form on his jump shot and Zach knocked down a couple of 3-balls. Unlike his brother, Zach is a righty. There is nothing but optimism when you look at the young Nhial’s game.
