Continue ReadingIn my next few articles, I will be breaking down some of the newest ranked players in the Class of 2024 Florida Rankings released by Prep Hoops this month. These are guys who I was able to watch during their freshmen seasons and think will make a big impact on their respective teams this winter. Whether it was grassroots season, the Prep Hoops Circuit, or just watching their high school teams last year, these are the guys who have stuck out to me in the 2024 class.
Karter Knox Karter Knox 6'6" | SG Tampa Catholic | 2024 #6 Nation GA , 6-6, Tampa Catholic, Ranking: #4
Knox has a legitimate claim as the most skilled player in the class of 2024. He holds the top guard spot, although he can easily function as a wing in the high school game. He’s an offensive juggernaut with the most well developed skill set of anyone in his class. Knox is as effective in isolation situations as he is with spot up shooting. His perimeter game has made huge strides, but he still has work to improve his 31% clip. Nevertheless, Knox led an incredibly talented Tampa Catholic team in scoring as a freshman, and will test his skillsets against some of the best programs in Florida and the country this winter.
Asa Newell Asa Newell 6'8" | PF Montverde Academy | 2024 State #29 Nation FL , 6-8, Chotaw, Ranking: #9
Newell is young and incredibly raw, but will serve a much needed role for panhandle powerhouse Choctawhatchee this year. With the departure of Ezra McKenna Ezra McKenna 6'6" | SF Choctaw | 2021 State FL for Choctaw, Newell will definitely be the main man in the low post for Indians this year. He’s a strong interior presence who is unafraid to step out to the 3-point line if necessary. He had one of the best matchups at this year’s Prep Hoops 250 Event against Dylan James Dylan James 6'8" | SF The Rock | 2023 State #48 Nation FL , where he showed his defensive intensity against one of Florida’s best players. He has strides to make on both sides of the ball, but with his size and strength at his age, he’s a high-upside project who will frustrate opposing offenses and defenses all season long.
Jaylen Robinson Jaylen Robinson 6'6" | SF DME Academy | 2024 State FL , 6-6, Providence, Ranking: #11
Robinson is one of my favorite players in this class. His work ethic and mentality around the game stands out for me, as he is a committed student athlete with a deep appreciation for the less fancy parts of the game. He’s the new star for Providence this year with the departure of Furman’s James Lee Repass James Lee Repass 6'10" | PF Providence | 2021 State FL and senior standout guard Jackson Dillard. He’s a smart forward with the ability to guard 1-5 and score in a myriad of ways. He will join a talented squad with standouts like Seth Allen Seth Allen 6'2" | CG Providence | 2022 State FL and Mason Lee Mason Lee 6'6" | SF Providence | 2023 State FL , but will most likely take the bulk of the offensive load for the Stallions this season.
Carter McDole Carter McDole 6'5" | SF Dr. Phillips | 2024 CA-S , 6-6, Dr. Phillips, Ranking: #24
McDole passed the eye test for me when I watched him ball out this summer for Athletes of Influence on their way to the Prep Circuit Championship in the 15U division. He’s a lanky forward with bounce and the ability to get downhill against defenses of all kinds. The former Montverde prospect has a solid free throw percentage and is as physical as they come down low. He joins a loaded defending championship Dr. Phillips squad, where he will probably serve as a key bench piece on a deep, championship caliber team. Playing alongside some of the best guards in the state in Denzel Aberdeen Denzel Aberdeen 6'4" | PG Dr. Phillips | 2022 State #197 Nation FL and Riley Kugel Riley Kugel 6'5" | CG Dr. Phillips | 2022 State #208 Nation FL , as well as the mentorship he’ll get from recent Kansas-commit Ernest Udeh Ernest Udeh 6'10" | C Dr. Phillips | 2022 State #48 Nation FL Jr. will bode well for a guy who could really explode with a bit more training. He’s a kid who will more than likely become a well-known name before the end of his high career and coaches should buy stock now.
